This should be easier

I've scoured Google and these forums as far back as 7 years and can't find any instructions for getting E:D to work with my Oculus Rift 2. I've tried tying it (the E:D Launcher from Frontier) to Steam, installed Virtual Desktop, yada yada yada and all I ever get is a screen in my Oculus that says:

Elite Dangerous64
Loading...

I hard wired to my PC.

Can someone help a brother out?

Thanks.

In-game settings: Graphics/3D should have a pair of options for: "HMD with headphones audio", and "HMD with audio on speakers".

I do know that it can sometimes happen that these fail to appear, for some reason that I do not know, but as long as OVRService (for an Oculus headset) is running, they should normally be there...

Uh, I have a rift s. Is that what you mean by rift 2?
At any rate, AFAIK you need to install elite dangerous using the oculus library software.
If you purchased a different version, steam or direct from fdev, I believe you can get a free key for the oculus version. I did get a free steam key when I moved from oculus to steam, so it should work the other way.

Rift & Quest headsets work quite happily with non-oculus versions of the game - I play using the Frontier launcher.

All that is required is the Oculus software running in the background.

Interesting - I do not have these options. I saw that listed in an article elsewhere and assumed that it was for an earlier version since it was clearly not available on mine. I'll make sure OVRService is running and then fire up the launcher again.

Thanks to everyone for the responses! (I had assumed I'd receive an email when people responded so didn't realize so many of you had chipped in to help - THANK YOU! This is what I get when I assume...)

To play Elite Dangerous in an Oculus Rift 2 helmet - there is no need to use Steam. It is enough to launch the Oculus app itself and the game.

Okay, uninstalled Oculus and E: D. Reinstalled Oculus first - ensured everything was working. Then installed E: D. Had to reboot a couple of times. Then turned on Oculus and got it all ready. Fired up E: D from the launcher (not Oculus). NOW I HAVE THE HMD VALUES IN 3D!!!

Now I have to figure out how to pull the E: D menu closer so I can read it. But that's another adventure!

Thank you all!
