Thoughts on Frag Cannons for PVE.

They're some of the most stupid-fun you can have in a fight, even more comical with wingmates. I had a Federal Gunship fitted with nothing but frags, the ship was modded for boost speed and shield/hull strength. I called it the Hammerhead.

I initiated fights by boost-ramming the target, usually one slam would drop the shields completely, then open up point blank with the frags.

There's no greater feeling than 1-shotting an NPC Conda with full shields. The neverending giggles and cackles coming from my wingmates kept me in that ship for a long, long time.

Nothing of what i wrote argued against multicannons. I mean, pulse lasers and multicannons, they are the vanilla and strawberry of this games weapons. And just like with ice cream, you can't go wrong with them. But you also won't surprise anybody fulfill the need for anything exotic.

All i expressed is that in a good setup, used only at the right time, frags can also last for a while for PvE purposes.

Today, pulses became somewhat obsolete IMO. They still have their uses (mainly on small ships or on ships with PD smaller than max shield class), but main PVE laser today is efficient beam. You simply cannot go wrong with efficient beam. Three large beams on Python would melt almost everything in seconds.

I like the experimentals we can put on pulses/burst lasers that we can't put on beams.

Can't go wrong with anything that does that much damage, surely. I've seen FDL builds on youtube with 4 medium frag cannons and they really seem to make a mess of anything they're pointed at.

I can see ammo being a pain, so if I do make a build with frags it'll probably be just be for fun and not making credits. It's got to be worth having one ship with this setup though.

Synthesis is rarely used in PVE. We simply do not want to hunt rocks after every major RES sortie.

Oh. I do a lot of PvE and am loaded to the max on basic elementals.

I synthesize all the time.

Thanks everyone for the advise. They kill much faster then the MC if I stay close. I have noticed that when I snatch someone out of SC, I can kill them before my FTL cooldown is 1/2 through. I like them alot. I have them on double shot for now, but should I change that to larger magazines? Anyway, thanks for the advise.

Not really, they have plenty of ammo, I haven't run out while doing mission runs and single synths on the run are very cheap on mats, and besides, double shot and overcharged effectively add 80% damage which you can't get from any other mod. I prefer overcharged because they're quicker to use and don't get out of sync so often, but since you already have double shot, there is little reason to switch.

I jumped on Overcharged when the added jitter was dropped on the recipe. Not only does Overcharged cover the damage bonus of Double Shot, but it allows the user to conserve ammo. Making for greater duration. Couple Overcharged Frags with some laser weapons, and you have a great PvE load out, with endurance and punch.

Hi guys, What are your thoughts of putting a bunch of these for High Ext zones and bounty hunting? All of these would be in PVE. I would be putting them on a Challenger. Please let me know what you thing and if its better then MC.

Thanks

Hugo
In my experience frags work best when you have a speed advantage and can dictate the range against the other ship, ie get in point blank and stay there.

Frags are good for big game hunting but generally weak against small ships like eagles etc which too small to be hit by most of the frag spread, so need to pack something else to deal with small ships or avoid.

more reloads for sure, but I took my pvp ship with frags and pas to a haz res and had a good time. Meta is boring. (yes I see the irony but I use most weapon types :p)

Overcharged has higher DPS and you won't run out of ammo as quickly.
You also don't need to land as many pellets by the same token...
