Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS Profile

Just started playing this yesterday. Loving it so far, noticed there didn't seem to be any Hotas profiles for the cougar.
So I created one, and am sharing it with the community. This is the first iteration so it quite likely will be updated as I go (Figuring out what controls are more important to have hands on).

Thanks for posting file, was begining to think i was the only one with the cougar setup :D
Liking the thrusters on the Radio switch so far. I did try them on the range & Antennae at first but found that too fiddely.

I use nearly the same setup, however I find the Yaw control a bit tricky, if you knock it while in station then things get interesting on takeoff.
Also - I can't get the microstick to do anything useful in game. How did you get that working? Do you use any stick profiles?

Cougar Setup

Okay, so I'm still getting my bearings with ED and the Cougar HOTAS I have but here are some of my changes/suggestions based on some time in the single person scenarios and a bit of time in the solo universe:

The yaw is very important to have for fine-tuned aiming. I have it bound to the throttle four-way (T5,T4) and it is working pretty good (though I'd rather it was on a self-centering analog axis - can't set button+x-axis to do so...)
I used the Ant Elev for lateral thrust - these two controls allow for some nice circle strafing.
I can fairly reliably knock out the Crimson guy in the third scenario this way.

when my landing gear is deployed (T1 mini cursor button), the landing overrides kick in which binds T5,T4 back to lateral thrust and puts yaw on Ant Elev. very nice to have when docking.

T6 is fwd/backward thrust (mostly only used in the stations) and T6 button is BOOST!

S1 I use for select target ahead, and I use S3 for flight assist off (hold). I've got S4 bound to deploy hard points.

I've got an Oculus so all the focus buttons are free.

I still can't use the T1 cursor for anything (I'd really like it to be thrust up/down +yaw for fine-tuned aiming).

I'm thinking about saving one button (maybe S2 or S3) to be a dedicated "modifier" button so that I can push it + other buttons for nice to have things like deploy heatsink, cargo scoop, run silent, etc. Thoughts?

I've also manually modified the .bind file so that the second detent in the trigger (TG2/J6) is set to secondary fire without the additional modifier of TG1/J1. This means that I can be firing group one at a target and when I pull to the second detent, both firing group one AND firing group two. I don't think this can be set in-game. Only problem is I can't fire group two by itself (right now it have it also set to S2).

Pedals would be nice for yaw, they might make it to my wishlist...

thoughts ideas? Especially about aiming - that seems to be the hardest thing to get right on a joystick rather than mouse and keyboard.

I've tried several times to download this file and after the waiting period it does absolutely nothing but open Spam windows. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance!

I use the micro stick and it's push button to do mouse look and enable/disable. You have to ensure the stick's axes are configured as joystick axes and not mouse axes in the TM config program.

Hey. How would I do this? I'd like to get the RDR Cursor working as Mouse Look or Yaw. I have HOTAS Cougar and fresh install of TARGET. I found a guide which I cannot seem to link, but I don't really understand how to start scripting stuff. If someone has a TARGET profile ready for Cougar, I'd be most happy!

I want to let everyone know how I figured this out for Windows 8.1 64-bit. First of all, you don't need TARGET. What you need is this (the Vista drivers). Now what you need to do is make sure you run the installer in Compatibility Mode for Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) and Run as Administrator. Now, someone said that you should turn off UAC, so I did. I don't know if that's necessary. Anyway, after you've installed the stuff go to your C:\Program Files (x86)\HOTAS\ folder and from inside the driver folder copy the STTubeDevice203.dll under your C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ folder. Next, back in the HOTAS folder, set the HOTASConfig.exe to run in the windows vista (service pack 2) mode and Run it as Administrator.

When the HOTAS Cougar Control Panel (CCP) starts up, on the Axis Setup tab you want to have Microstick X and Y on 7 and 8 unless you are planning to use Toe Brakes. This will enable Microstick and disable Toe Brakes. Now you hit Apply.

Go to Axis Shaping tab and set your curves as you like them. I have Curve of -4 on both X axis and Y axis of the stick. Remember to Apply.

On the Startup & Calibration tab, and this is important y'all, you want to set Axis Response to User mode, Emulation to Off, Calibration mode to Manual calibration. Then in the Calibration section you want to click Manual Calibration button and follow the instructions given. After calibration, you apply the settings and save the profile. I think you also need to click Save in the Startup Options section and load the profile you've just saved in the Profile section. And to be sure just Apply again. There may be too many unnecessary steps in that part.

Anyhow you can now close the CCP. To try out if your calibration and setups were assigned correctly, launch HOTASView.exe and try your microstick. It should show as moving both the Zr and Yr axis next to the pedals image.

I hope this was helpful to someone.

So I got my cougar working in windows 10, follow lancelots directions for windows 7 on Cougar world. now trying to download this profile, says I have to be a premium member can anyone else share this ??
Please...

Thanks for this Reaper7 - its very similar to my Cougar setup although I am lucky having an old set of Thrustmaster Elite Rudder pedals for yaw.

I have two Cougars currently - one is working and on my desk and the other is being butchered for my simpit rig (see links in my sig) and I have been thinking about gutting the throttle entirely and seeing if I can squeeze a microstick into the radio 4-way so I can have analogue thrusters.

Hi all Cougar HOTAS Owners,

which system you are running?

I have windows 10 pro, and i cant the Stick 100% to work.

Any help?

Thanks, cheers

Edit:

I had previously installed the Windows 98SE/ME/2K/XP 3_HCO_2004.exe 6,4MB

This causes a lot of issues...

Now i swapped over to the Vista Drivers 2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe 48 MB

Works like a charm under Win10Pro 64bit
