Thrustmaster FCS Throttle--re-grease it to make it AWESOME

So, my one big problem with the FCS Throttle is its stickiness--throttle takes a lot of effort to get going, then once it does, it breaks free and travels too far. That's the opposite of what you want in a fine resolution throttle. The fix? A bottle of Nyogel 767A dampening grease, and maybe 20 min of work. Having removed the old grease from both the rails and the planetary motion nut/washer path, I put this grease on and now that throttle is smooth as silk--now requires an even amount of force to both start and move it, so you can make really fine adjustments in speed.

If you own of these, and are frustrated with the behavior of the throttle, this was a great fix. I don't think you necessarily need that brand--any heavy duty dampening grease would be a major improvement over what's on them from the factory.

May give my T16000 stick the same treatment tomorrow. :)

How about the rudder pedals? I tried lubin the rails but they still have a "breaking" force to begin the motion which is just enough to over-rudder (more so a problem in other games than elite)

I'd bet it would work wonders. This is amazing stuff. I don't know what the rudder mechanism is, but given your description of the issue, if you're comfortable in disassembling them, you should be able to remove the existing grease and replace with a dampening grease, and you should see a similar change in behavior.

I may have to give it a go. It's super annoying that I can't do requisite minute corrections without first overcorrecting

There is a screw you can loosen on the underneath which reduces the drag on the throttle.
That was very helpful for me.

I did that at first and it worked for a few weeks, but started to get sticky again after that.

Push throttle all the way up (forward) and flip it over. There will be a screw visible now through a hole in the bottom.

Wow, what a difference! I've been fighting with this throttle since I bought it. Now it's much better.

Thanks! :)

Dunno what your mechanism is made of, but when I needed to grease my X52's centring ring (nylon ring that slides on steel shaft) I found trombone lubricant really good... it uses PTF (the same thing as the slippy pads on the bottom of mice) as the lubricant which is safe on all plastics and lasts for ages. You can get it from any music shop, but I ordered mine from ebay for a couple of bucks.

Do you know if there's any difference between the red one you show and the blue one for sale here? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUPERSLIC...996786?hash=item3ef77add72:g:TpcAAOSwGotWrlP9

For lubricating a stick, that's fine. That's kind of what I use for mine. For the throttle, not so good if you want the effect I describe above. A super slick grease will give the throttle too easy play. The stuff I used is actually pretty sticky and dense.

Unfortunately, it's not cheap, near as I can see. But, if you really want to improve the feel of the throttle, you gotta bite the bullet.

I see. The X52's throttle includes a friction dial, does the Fcs not?

That's odd, the original grease on my FCS was smooth as glass, with no sticking at all. Could easily move it with just one finger. Loved it. That lasted only 400 hours tho.

Been trying to figure out what it was; milky white and pretty fluidy. (got mine in Oct 16)

Don't want mine to have any dampening at all, but can easily see that some would. After doing a lot of reading re:what lubes are good (or harmful) for plastic, tried silicone. Did stop the sticking for a bit, but doesn't last long and is too thick for my taste.

Any ideas?
