Thrustmaster lack of Joystick Yaw

I hate pedals for space flight - they are logical in (and I use them for) atmospheric flight (in flight sims) where you use them in conjunction with banking (which produces the aircraft's yaw) - in space it's counter-intuitive to me.

I therefore use the pinky switch on my CH Fighterstick (you can do the same with Warthog) to bind Yaw to Roll (as hold-on) that way when you move the stick to the left, you yaw left and vice-versa. (I still have the pedals bound to yaw - I just don't use them.)

Additionally, I'm not aware it's possible to separate the 'input' that the joystick twist and the throttle's rocker both apply to. As best I know they both only and forever present as the same input. Happy to be wrong!

You're wrong.

There's a toggle button on the throttle's base unit, labelled with a house icon for reasons that surpass my understanding. It toggles the rocker between PS4 mode, where it duplicates the stick twist, and PC mode, where it's its own axis. I use it for lateral thrust, and SRV steering. Great stuff.

Here I am using a gamepad... Do miss flight stick though. Might buy the t16000 when I have the cash spare.

I used the twist yaw, and the rocker on the back for up and down thrust. Yes they can be used for different stuff.

Thanks both - great to learn something new! Cheers!

Of course you could always use this as another input device - looks crazy but I wonder how well it works in practice:

Not sure if this might help. I use bindings similar to this. It uses 4 of the buttons on the throttle as "shift keys", in effect multiplying the total number of controls.

Yup, I used to do this when I only had an Xbox controller. Had literally everything I needed mapped to some combination or another. Now I've got the Logitech 3D stick and the Thrustmaster FCS throttle and that about covers all I need without a bunch of combos. Though, I do use a modifier button for quick panel views.

How do people find twisting a stick is on your wrists? Sounds like a recipe for RSI to me.

Been using twist on joystick for over a year now (in my 30s), also used it extensively back in the day (as a disgusting pre-teen). I've got no problems with the wrist though I'm not the type to wrench the thing during tense moments. There isn't as much give as you might think...something a little less than 45 degrees in either direction. However, your senses are precise enough with your hands to make fine movements.

I have more issues with my upper back, mainly because my current setup has everything up a little too high from where my arms rest.
