Hardware & Technical Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X

Stopped trying to do it with my thumbtrackerball from logitech and ordered a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X I hope that is good enough for the game, because I can't afford anything better right now. Can't wait until it is here so I can try the game with a joystick.(but I have to ;o( )

I've got one and its a fine entry into a hotas setup. Its a very different game with proper controls, much better than with a pad or m&k.

I have one and I like it, for the price I think its very good.

Still have to use the keyboard for a few things but I am OK with that.

I got one this week and must say its making the game feel so much better :)
Was before using an Xbox 360 controller which was fine but the amount of control you get from the T-Flight is so much better.

Had one for a while now and it adds a lot to the flight experience although I have not tried dogfighting with it as I tend to do a runner instead.

I have one as well, and it's great for getting a stick and throttle on the cheap. The only problem I have is that Windows loses calibration every time I reboot or unplug the device. I dual boot Linux for work, Windows for gaming only.

There's a great thread here (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=16140) with some control settings that others have come up with, if you're looking for tips on how to configure it for the game.

I've had mine for a month and with modifier buttons you can move everything onto the HOTAS. It's a great joystick for the price!

I bought one for use with ED and don't regret it a single bit! When combined with VoiceAttack I never need to touch the keyboard except to type in text chat, and as someone who'd never used anything more than a basic joystick before it's made a huge difference to my enjoyment of the game.

yeah. It does a great job.
Only issue is, I would like just a few more buttons. Especially when using a rift.
the build is a bit creaky too. but functions perfectly and I do tend to break stuff easily.

i agree using the modifier buttons doesnt need the keyboard anymore and i use the setup from smackers.

Echo that - great value and a huge jump from trying to play with K&M for me. Still experimenting with setup using modifier buttons. Critical to map thrusters to the joystick, I use the hat switch.

has anyone figured out a good way to manage the system map? I'm on dk2, and flightstick. mouse and keyboard too. but I can't use it without turning off the rift.

Show me an aircraft, any aircraft or space craft that is controlled with a mouse or a trackball! Of course you need a joystick (I know, there are lots of mouse users out there, but I can't take them seriously). Having said that, the Logitech Thumbtrackball is my favorite controller for FPS games. (He chants NO MICE...NO MICE...NO MICE)! :D

I am using this device, and OMG for the cheap price it adds so much to this amazing game. easy to set up controls via the ingame controls option. nice robust flight controller, ergonomically great ( very comfortable, even after playing non stop for 6 hours ) makes docking like a hot knife cutting thru butter. do not regret buying for 1 second, £50 for beta game access and another £35 for flightstick might be a little pricey for some consumers, but if you enjoy this game and wanna improve on the experience then I would 100% recommend this controller.

+1

Hat for thrusters, modifier + hat for power distribution.

Got the thrustmaster a month ago. It makes all the difference. Controlled acceleration, precise movement . About 20 button config if you include axis and throttle. .You still need a few keys on the keyboard but remember it is a space sim/game so does require a few extra buttons.

Seriously good value. At the price there is absolutely nothing to criticize about the T-Flight. The centre detent for zero thrust on the throttle and twist for yaw on the stick makes it the ideal budget HOTAS for this game.

Farscape's Moya

(no seriously, the 'emergency' flight control was a painted Logitech lefty trackball)

Have one too, it feels much better than m&k.
I use a cheap USB Numpad lying between throttle and stick for power distribution, sensor range, etc. and it works very well.
