Thrustmaster Warthog dual-stage trigger and Elite: Dangerous

If you struggle to get the trigger to fire Primary and Secondary weapons at the same time when you have the trigger fully depressed, read on.

The trick is to go into the weapons setting and do this:

1. For Primary Fire, use the mouse to click on the area where buttons are assigned and depress the trigger to the first stage only. That will register as "Joy 1"

2. For Secondary Fire, depress the trigger to the first stage, then while still holding it at the first stage, click on the button assigning area with mouse, then pull the trigger to the second stage. This will register as "Button 6". If you try to register Secondary Fire by pulling the trigger all the way to the second stage, you'll get "Joy1 + Joy6" as the fire group, and then you won't be able to fire both Primary and Secondary at the same time.

Cheers

Good advice. Is there no better option for secondary fire on the Warthog?

I'm looking at a HOTAS with dual stage trigger, so I'm curious what utility you see in it. Are you using weapons that have a "spin up" time like rails or multis? Or do you just want to take full advantage of the dual stage trigger and not want to burn another key.

While that may sound like a good idea, I have considered it myself, in practice it is probably a bad one.

Better to use alternate fire groups to do as you suggest IMO.

For ED and similar games, no utility - all weapons are single stage firing but may have a fire delay.

Not sure about the A10 Warthog flight sim game - it could be that the first stage is used to spin up the main cannon on both the real and simulated aircraft.

Can't rep you again. Setup advice should always be appreciated, even if someone already knows it. Thank you for contributing to the community's knowledge base.

For me it works best when I have a mix of fixed and gimballed weapons. The Primary fire stage can be held down continuously with the gimballed weapons, then I can fully depress the trigger to activate to fixed weapons when able, which I have set to Secondary fire, and still keep firing the gimballed guns.

KW scanners too. And missiles. It's got tons of uses.

No, it stabilizes the aircraft. Excerpt from the manual:

"Gun Strafe Using PAC (Precision Attitude Control)
PAC assists by stabilizing the aircraft during strafing and allowing much greater round density on
target because the pitch and yaw will be controlled during gunfire to keep the rounds from walking
from the initial target point. PAC does this by applying elevator and rudder control through the SAS to
stabilize the aircraft's nose during gun fire."

I've found no use for dual-stage trigger of the Warthog in Elite.

If you are running a script then you can modify this any way you wish. In my setup, I have the dual stage trigger firing both primary & secondary combined, with only primary on the first stage. I have the pinky button at the base of the joystick as a separate/independent trigger for the secondary only which gives all combinations at my finger tips. I also added a modifier using the CMS Hat Switch button, which will change the combined dual stage to an independent primary only.
