Time to consider Rank Decay?

I have triple elite, and it is one of reasons I can't be bothered any more. I know I could do a reset, but I have invested all those hours in that character, so a reset is out of the question.

I have not fought anything in months, I have no reason to so. I have not traded in months, I have Scrouge McDuck levels of cash. With the current absence of any meaningful mystery, I have no reason to explore.

If I do anything to attract the attention of npcs, its likely to be elite level, so I still have to fly a pretty useful ship. Bimbling around in a poorly kitted outlier ship is likely to end in having a new one torn.

If my elite ranks were to decay at a very slow rate (maybe based on time played instead of real time), I could see several advantages not only to my game experience, but also to my general enthusiasm.

I might have some reason to take out that pirate to keep my combat rank topped up. Some delivery missions might be worth taking above the bgs transaction diminished return level.
If not, and I let my ranks drop, I might have a little more fun in a dbs taking on some lower ranked enemies.

Might it be a help in the general malaise that is hitting more and more of the ancient players?

Treat yourself to a bargain Horizons as an alternative account and start from scratch ?

I would add to this that Q4 would likely be a good time to start an exploration career again, with so much new stuff and pretty planets to discover and everything else that goes with them.

No. Not rank decay.

Should develop more rank specializations (ex. Elite Combat for Feds, Elite Combat for the Empire, etc.), achievement titles, decals, skins, outfits to go with those tags.

Grind happens in mmos. Most mmos use achievement bait surface perks to keep you going. Pretty simple motivator that works.

Never understand why people care about these ranks. They are pretty much meaningless.

With Driver here...

it's like when I used to play Clancy's HAWX.. there's an achievement to fly upside down 10 ft above the ground for 30 mins... Neither had the time, nor inclination to undertake such a pointless non-achievement.

When I think of these ranks in ED it's like.. MEH. what really does it prove? Will my game suddenly improve to the point where any significant changes influence things? Not even being KING in Empire makes a of a difference.. I only did that since they were nerfing 'exploits' at the time. I fly the Imperial flagship, and still get knocked out the way by an NPC type 6, in Empire territory... so yeah, agree with 777Driver on this!

Please no, I am almost to deadly in combat and after that I will work on becoming elite in exploration.

Wear the title, and just relax and do a little of everything, your grind is over.

That's what I plan to do after getting triple elite, just relax and do whatever, whenever.

Two problems with chasing goals:
  1. What happens if you never reach them?
  2. What happens if you do?

:p

Extending ranks would have the completionists complaining about increased grind (and would kind of make a mockery of the term "Elite"). I guess they could include 'modifiers' rather than new ranks (e.g. "Elite with palm" in the style of military decorations, or Elite 1st class, Elite 2nd class etc.)

Don't really see the benefit of decaying rank.

I mean, Exploration and Trade are completely meaningless and the only purpose for Combat rank is to level enemies sent against you.
If I don't indulge in sufficient combat for a few days/weeks/months my Combat rank decays, I get weaker enemies sent against me and they're easier to kill?
This is more fun, how?

I wouldn't be against stuff like Superpower/faction rank/rep' decaying over time but it'd have to be based on time played rather than real-time.
I don't want to be out of the country for 3 months, come back and find I've wasted a heap of effort.

OP, let me get this straight. You want then to take your hard work away from you so you can grind for it again? That's a bit insane!

Get a new account and play on that!

I have four accounts now 2 PC, 1 Xbone and 1 PS4.

I think actually it's be better if you lose some rank for being destroyed or failing missions etc rather than simply decay over time.

At least that way players will find their level playing field until they actually learn to cope with something higher...
