I think a nice feature for the Orrery would be able to speed up the time.. have a fast forward, and you could then see the system bodies moving in thier full orbits. It would obviously reset itself when you exit. No practical use except it would be a stunning use of the tech.

I seem to remember them having this in Frontier. It may have been considered, but as you've said there's no practical application except - "wow cool!"

It does have practical applications, though.
- make sure that a race site is going to be on the light side of the planet at race time. Especially important now that it's dark on the dark sides in Beta.
- find the times of interesting conjunctions, eclipses, transits, etc. without having to guess.
Hopefully we'll get it as an addition fairly soon.

It never even occurred to me as I've never taken part in any races, and the only 'photos'(?) taken have been after thinking "wow, that would make a nice desktop background, I'm having that!"
