Newcomer / Intro tip of the day: Don't boost inside a Starport

Have you ever hit the boost butting while trying to find your landing pad only to explode your shiny new ship into pieces?! Of Course You Haven't!

Because you know 1 of 2 very important rules:

1: put your landing gear down as you make your approach through the blue envelope slot into the starport, to disable your afterburners.
or
2: don't fly while intoxicated

That is all.

i think we've all done it at least once, most more than once. all it takes is one moment of inattention or one misplaced jab of the finger...

my most re-occurring brain-fart isn't the boost though, it's going forward instead of up during take-off. crunch, oops, sorry ground crew. my mistake!

ha ha, yes, we've all done it lol.......cost me a lot of credits one time if I remember and I boosted in, managed to stop before hitting the back but then boosted again and crashed into the front.

Haha, welcome to the family. :p

I always lower my gear on approach, hit the boost button way too many times for my liking. :D

Not content with almost dying once eh? Had to challenge the wings of fate one more time? :p

Yes, you can imagine my language at the time - didn't engage brain at the time (was probably trying to slow / boost away from hitting the back wall at the time!)

haha, no I haven't make that mistake but ... leaving my doking pad inadvertently I pushed "FA off" (I nevere use it!) and my ship went bouncing all around ... before I realized what was appening my ship was destroyed :(

got excited inside the RES and decided to slalom around looking for cobras to fire at. Needless to say, colliding with asteroids gives a similar result...

EXCEPTION! You can boost in a starport while you're leaving :D

IF you're careful to be properly aligned with the letterbox, and IF there isn't a Type 9 coming in :D

If you fail at either one....well, lets just say that I speak from personal experience when I say that the consequences are....rather violent.

Don't worry OP, we've all done it, too.

Actually the landing gear disabling boost is relatively new feature. Before, in betas, it was possible to boost even with the gear down. Much more fun! :D

I only hit boost by accident while exiting once - great way to test your piloting skills.

Accidentally going FA off while landing, on the other hand... Happened a few more times in my pre-HOTAS days. Those people in the flight control towers sure have amusing lives. And tough windows.

About the best I've done was entering the mail slot when realized I had not requested docking, In a panicked flailing of joystick slaps, I manged to boost into the port instead of the full reverse out....there was much death and destruction

Alcohol helps with the long jumps between gates, lucky they do not breathalyse you on entry ;)

You won't find any empty beer cans laying around my ship, my hangovers are incapacitating, I'm not saying there might not be a faint smell of Patchouli oil lingering for some reason though.

In the new patch Internal security ships have added a breathalyzer to their scan, pilots may be required to preform some basic flight maneuvers before being allowed to proceed.
