Tip off's. Awesome gameplay!

I Don't know how i got them, i got some tip off's last week. There was no real deadline for them besides that there was a salvageteam on its way to clear the crash site. approx ETA "next couple of days"

So yesterday i decided to check out the coordinates.

And it was one of the most awesome things i did in Elite Dangerous.. (you hear that Frontier Dev's.. it was awesome, and i want moar! :p)

the crash sites were outside the bubble, between the 100 and 150 ly out. First i needed to find the planet, not big issues here. After that i needed to navigate to the coordinates they gave me over the mail in the comms panel.

I had 3 of those tip offs, i was late for one of them i think since i only found some skimmers and some loot.

But with the other 2 i found the following..

There was also some mail i could read after scanning the computers in the wreckage. Some really dramatic stuff.. :(

The pilot of the Eagle had a girlfriend and was saying that he couldn't make it back in time for the wedding.... gosh..

Loved it!!

Seems like these are going around recently. There are some posts on Reddit about something similar. Apparently if you got a key from a scan you get the millions, but get a lot less if you don't.

I scanned a data beacon on a ship wreckage recently that mentioned that the key wasn't there. I wonder if these ship wreck scans are all linked to some overall story or event somehow.

This is very cool!

I've had a couple of these now, but didn't think I could figure out the whole Latitude / Longitude aspect!

Translation: I'm lazy.

Yes, i indeed recieved a encryption key in my mail. Maybe its related with all those personal data packages i scanned in USS's

I also noticed that i have on of those "tip off" mission in my mail, with an encryption key. No deadline given, and i hope it is still valid when i come home - 7K LY out ....

Where ever you are they got to have a wedding barge, this is ED.....:D

II received a Tip Off in my in game email, when I get there in the specific coordinates I found only some canisters. No big deal, bad luck perhaps.

This is awesome. Any clue what you did to get the tip offs?

No, though I am maxed out allied with all the Imperial factions im doing Missions for in the system im in atm.

The sender of those tip offs is anonymous.

But I don't mind.. Lol. I like him anyway..

FD could log every players screw up on a planet and craft in an appropriate wreck there, complete with their cargo, hardly a hard call as it'll be in the logs somewhere - Planet based BOOM = that ship as wreck on planet, with wreckage vanishing on a time scale according to visiting traffic... just an idea

Had a tip off last week some 300ly out ..bought an aspect Explorer max fsd ....was a job to find the coordinates but received a data package worth 1.6 million and some story of the pilot's last words ...we need stuff like this but with a chain mission or even a treasure hunt ....

Aaaand another one slavaged.

I think im going to start myself a salvage business if the Fuel Rats happen to come late to the party.. :D

Salvaging has satisfied me the most so far. I especially love dropping in when it's night time and hearing all the whirring and heaving of the universal cargo hatch / SRV being lowered. Haven't got bored of it yet!

I can't imagine how much cooler it will be if we get some atmospheric effects later down the line. Landing on a stormy planet looking for cargo will basically feel like the start of Aliens.

Fun, but not as rewarding as I'd hoped

Just finished my first "Tip Off" mission, we really do need a way to add a waypoint at a set of co-ordinates, as even for an experienced orienteer it wasn't all that easy finding the spot. Sadly, after reading about all the 1.9 million payoffs for the data, I got a rather lesser amount of 825k, but still not bad, and a new experience is always welcome. Well done Frontier, may we have rare and interesting materials onboard too next time ?
