Newcomer / Intro Tips for finding HIGH GRADE EMISSIONS

Trying to find HIGH GRADE EMISSIONS to obtain GRADE 5 materials in order to do some trading with the material traders.

I've tried going 100,000Ls away from system star but only seem to find DEGRADED EMISSIONS.

Any tips please?

No need to go that far. Deep space will do. High population is best, but generally its a bit of a chore and extremely random.

If you're not looking for a specific material, I find mission rewards more reliable - and look for HGEs while travelling to and from mission locations.

... and maybe read some of the guides to finding HGEs, so you don't seem to be following the usual advice. Even better, wait for Q4 where it will be much better.

Once again I must apologise for forgetting who posted this but I keep it handy on the PC for when I need "stuff":

6. High Grade Emission USS

Occurrence: In the "Deep Space" area of inhabited systems, less often in the "SO" area. Their occurrence and "content" depends on the affiliation and state of the system.
Threat Level: 0
Description: USS type in which we can find rare materials (grade 4,5) for engineers, we will not find them in other places.

High Grade Emissions are much less common than Encoded Emmisions and Degraded Emissions. Sometimes it takes a lot of time to appear. And because of what systems and states out there are the materials that are important to choose wisely.

Affiliation
Federation systems - Core Dynamics Composites, Proprietary Composites
Empire systems - Imperial Shielding, Proprietary Composites

Searching for materials above, it is best to look for them in the system witch "Election" state with proper affiliation. Because he does not conflict with the material drop from other states of the systems. This does not change the fact that the other states listed below may drop materials from above. Similarly, this reduces the chances of drop chosen material. This is the reason why you should look for the above materials in systems with "Election" and proper affiliation.

System State
Boom - Proto Heat Radiators, Proto Light Alloys, Proto Radiolic Alloys
Outbreak - Pharmaceutical Isolators
War/Civil War - Military Grade Alloys, Military Supercapacitors
Civil Unrest - Improvised Components

Searching for materials droping from system state it is best to look for systems with affiliation to Independent or Alliance and proper state. As in the case above, this excludes drop of Federation and Empire related material, by increasing the chances of finding the material we care about.

I have not altered the language, that is exactly how it was posted.

HGEs do now turn up in other than "Deep Space" but they are still horrid in my experience. In all the time that they have been in existence I have hardly ever found ImpComps and PharmIsolators are rarer than unicorn-droppings.

:)

I've taken on board the comments above....thanks for the advice everyone.

The funny thing was I gave up in the end.....no HGE's when I tried looking.

Headed back to my home base and on the way back whilst in deep space (can't remember what system) an USS popped up so I thought what the heck...lets check it out....and what do you know....it was a HGE!!! Got some good G5 materials.

As I'm not looking for any G5 material/data specifically I'll take the advice of doing missions (with materials in in return) & engineer upgrades and just check out USS whilst in deep space and see what comes of that.

Be interesting to see what happens with the Q4 upgrade as mentioned above.

What are "SO" areas?

OP first bad news: there is now much less HUSS spawn as anytime before. If you will be unlucky, prepare for allot time needed for find just one HUSS.

Now what you can try when you will be in system with correct characteristics (in posts above):

Go above planets ecliptic by circa 2k ls (deep space)
There slow down and start fly in circles
USS will be spawned (check for HUSS) ... they can spawn quite frequently in that place, question is if they will be High ... (my last attempt was 1xHUSS and 30x trash in high populated system).
If there will be only trash (all kind of USS except high), then try change system and you may need to do this more as once
Helps if you use filter in left panel and you will have there checked only stars and USS.

My personal advice: forget about HUSS and get lvl5 mats from missions and anaconda (etc) kills. This may need more time but you will have fun and can learn few things; that above is just lost time and allot frustration. In Q4 later this year this hopefully will change and USS (High) will be viable way how to get certain mats.

Sphere of Influence

What you see in the nav target panel - basically anything other than "Deep Space" I suppose.

Here is an old thread about these "areas in supercruise":

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/370520-Areas-in-supercruise

... bear in mind that the dev's have stated that HGE occurring in places other than "Deep Space" should be more frequent now - and I have seen them in shipping lanes and near RES and stations. Q4 update is supposed to make finding them easier.

Thanks!

I was curious about your banner and googled Vital Spark and saw it was a boat in the television show, Para Handy - Master Mariner. The actor that plays Para Handy looks kind of like the picture in your avatar, is it you?

The three adults in the avatar are the three actors who have played Para Handy in it's various incarnations. I'm the wee bairn in the kilt.

Para Handy is a character in a series of stories written in the early 20th century - the puffer is an iconic small trading vessel in the west of Scotland.

P.S. No my name isn't Peter MacFarlane either but I had sailed those waters from my pre-teen years through most of my adult life.

Go use a spread sheet, go look up eddb. Keep failing. Why do you see so many degraded. If you can look and see. All HGE come easily.
So many experts and they fail so badly.

They only come when you're not actively not searching for them and they know when you're looking for them because they can detect tears of frustration through the screen.

If you like combat, I've collected all of the following dropped by destroyed Conda's in RES sites.

- Core Dynamics Composites, Proprietary Composites, Imperial Shielding
- Proto Light Alloys, Proto Radiolic Alloys
- Pharmaceutical Isolators, Military Grade Alloys, Improvised Components

To me it's far easier and rewarding than hunting HGE's.

.
I actually think (without having numbers to back it up), that the rate of HGEs per time for me isn't really lower on trade lanes than in deep space. But I get many more other USSes when not being in deep space. That means I spend more time turning and scanning. (And jumping into Distress Calls and killing pirates and having fun instead of mindlessly cruising for HGEs. )
.
That's why I think that looking for HGEs in deep space is still more time efficient. But also still not fun. I hope the Q4 update will fix that problem.
.

Well, people play differently.

I tend to go manufactured material hunting in the following way.

-Trade down on all mats so there is room in all categories.
-Stock up on collector limpets.
-Find system for the cat 5 mat i need the most.
-Go above planets ecliptic by about 2k ls (deep space) (As Mr Forlon said) but,
-point your ship at main star and move slowly towards it.
-Scan ships for data and look at USS's
-Drop into whatever USS's you want for materials. (I generally drop into Degraded, Encoded, High, Distress, Combat Aftermath and probably some more)

This gives me data from ship scans and encoded USS, cargo from scavenging, manufactured mats of many kinds including lvl 5 mats from high, a bit of combat and bounties depending on what threat I drop into.

Takes a while, but I seem to get my share of high USS's and it keeps me entertained with a little variation.

What works best for me (2020/05/15) in case people search, as this is the thread that came up for me:

What you need:
Collector Limpet Controller
Cargo (load with collector limpets)

Filter map for Boom, and one or two steps down from the highest population (lots of places still show up near Shinrarta).
Go to one that shows up.
Honk.
Scan nav-beacon and jump to supercruise (must be in supercruise to see HGEs)
Target HGE, cruise, drop, deploy scoop, target components and fire limpets.

Good hunting! o7
