To all you thousands of people who have fleet carriers - how did you make 5 billion credits? I've gotten about half a billion doing various random things - including a lot of goods trading in a Cutter and a lot of Robigo runs, and plenty of exploring. But it seems that making 5bn would take about another 300 trade runs at least. Is there some other way to make huge amounts of cash that I'm not aware of? Does some form of mining pay better than trading?
Try to focus on credits making.
It won't be fast, but if you set certain goals and work to achieve them, it will not take very long either - but overall it's a long term goal.
Just keep in mind that 5 Billions is not enough.
You need about 7 billions, maybe more - you need to install services, and you do need to cover some months of upkeep (just in case)
Robigo runs are paying about 100 millions for the first hour, then it drops a bit due to mission board starvation
Mining platinum in a
good ring/hotspot is more productive than Robigo runs
Doing stacked massacre missions (if you have combat skills and a good engineered combat ship) are also very productive.
Edtools is of great help here
Trading runs of about 24-25k per ton profit, means like 18-19 millions credits per Cutter run, about 100 millions per hour.
Just remember that missions are paying better if you are allied with the factions.
So you could settle in a system that offers massacre missions to a single destination and work out the rep by doing supply/delivery missions and/or massacre missions.
Alternating them might help avoid burning out.
You can do some research using Edtools and eddb.io and pick a good system (industrial or extraction) with station close to drop off, in a nice neighborhood, with massacre missions all stacked in a small system (dont pick one which offers massacre missions in multi-star systems - you dont want missions at 200,000 ls away from dropoff) - things can progress nicely
