Tired of the impunity of trolls.

So you ask for public punishment and call them trolls because someone forgot to log out? All while you could just block the player in question, log in, log out and be done with it?

They could even have been there doing things like remote engineering, for example. Or waiting for the board to update etc etc.

I'd also be willing to bet that the OP probably wasn't being overly polite in requesting that they move off the landing pad, if they communicated at all.

That is something that could break the terms of service...

I repeatedly used please, and politely requested reasoning for being there for so long.

No response. At all.

The above link addresses timeout issues, on guthub.

It's copy-pasta type code...

Rep for the good title OP. The impunity of Trolls sounds like a book I would like to read. As for your definition of Trolling, AFK on landing pads, I find this very weak.

You should have played in the early days of Multicrew. Thete were Explorers the far side of Sag a* who discovered next level Trolling when they invited someone aboard. To be fair the procedurally generated rocks on the land able planets are more Troll like than an AFK Cmdr.

My advice is to switch to Solo, land then switch back again and then go AFK while you eat a Snickers because you get whiney when you're hungry.

I politely explained that I was just trying to land and drop refugees. No response.

Of they were AFK, cool. It's not hard to detect that.

If they were ignoring me, then that's just .

If they were busy and active, they would have recieved notification of my direct messages.

Again. Even Discord knows when you're AFK...

So the community response is, your problem. Doesn't matter if they're AFK?

That's kinda what I'm getting when you call me "whiny" for calling out a basic flaw in design... How many of you are even in the computer science field, in general?

I get that every game will have trolls. It's just a thing...

Nice read. Thanks. Any PvP environment will have players actively seeking to cause others "grief". Why they do this has no relevance. Because they can is the usual argument. There are different ways for a games developer to negate this. FD have gone with two primary tools:

  • Modes: If you don't care for the uncertainty of random encounters, choose a different mode.
  • The block feature: If you like random encounters but meet certain unpleasant individuals, choose the block feature
They both work quite well.

Personally, and this is the proverbial dead horse so I apologise in advance, I still think that FD should have made a dedicated PvE mode right from the start, thus verifying Open mode as a "true" PvP mode. This would have eliminated much of the salt that we see to this day.

Others will argue that the lack of a dedicated PvE mode is deliberate and working as intended, as controversy and grief keeps the game community active. I submit this forum as evidence.

Bottom line: you have options available to you. Use them.

Good luck and fly safe Commander. :)

Wanna kill trolls? Nerf frags and packhounds to deal reasonable damage. Most trolly greifers rely on these weapons. Frags should NOT be more effective than a PA when both weapons are under the falloff, that aspect is downright . 10% damage reduction PER PELLET. same with packhounds. Skill should be rewarded. No skill should not.

Lol! Nah. It's cool. I'll just take my money elsewhere, and recommend that anyone I meet stay away from anything FD.

It's cool. It's just a game. But I'm not going to contribute to a community that just gives me work arounds like Microsoft, and belittles me for calling out basic flaws.

Not necessarily.
1) It's possible to disable incoming text channels
1a) It's possible to disable incoming text channels without realising you've done so and without any hint afterwards that you did unless you check the settings again

2) If they were in Outfitting, Galmap, Galnet, Powerplay or Holo-Me ... they wouldn't have seen the messages at all. If they were in any of the full-screen station services menus, the comms menu is pretty hard to see unless you specifically focus it ... and while you do get a beep for it, you also get a very similar beep for NPC local comms which you can safely ignore. I've certainly missed comms messages while sat in stations looking at the markets and missions.

What do you expect "the community" to do other than that? They can't recode the game for you, so they are offering alternatives to sitting and whining about not having a pad.

Sure, it sucks that you can't dock. Ideally, something should be done about that. But since that's not going to happen instantly, people are giving you the choices. If those choices aren't palettable to you, then that's hardly the fault of the forum, is it?

I get that you just wanted to rant, but attacking the folk who are trying to give their best seems a bit pointless.

P.S I've been to a rescue ship myself and had no clue that there was only one large pad. Also, it's entirely possible not to see incoming messages whilst you're docked doing stuff.

Thank you for at least acknowledging the gap there. I've grinded really hard to get relevant in this game. But alternately that doesn't mean ... The community just drowns out legitimate calls for action, and this is a community based game...

Sorry.. I'm just done with it at this point....

You've been around I think, so you'll recognise agitators when you see them, yes? ;) Plenty of that here, as everywhere else. :)

Ummm... I was offering suggestions... Easily duplicated code... The community attacked first. Please read the OP thread before commenting on the OP's perspective...
