Titan drive components are now fairly safe to scavenge in Sol

Report from my recent visit to the remains of Cocijo:

  • No more caustic cloud. I brought three engineered caustic sink launchers, but didn't need them even once. I assume the cloud has dissipated.
  • Very few pirates. I only noticed being scanned once, and that was before I had any cargo, so they left me alone.
  • No thargoids. Or, if one did show up, it did so without triggering a frame shift anomaly warning, and the AX squad must have kept it busy the whole time I was there.
  • Some gankers, at least one of which claimed to be attacking only Federation-pledged ships. Easily avoided by playing in solo mode.
  • Some ganker hunters. Respect to those pilots.
The experience was noticeably easier than my visit to another dead titan just after the new Engineered FSD (SCO) V1 was released. In that case, pirates and thargoid interceptors regularly appeared.

In just over 2.5 hours, I collected 6 titan drive components, plenty of propulsion elements, and a bunch of other miscellaneous materials. The useful debris usually spawns about 10-15km from the titan's center, so I spent my time flying in circles, keeping the navigation point roughly 11-12 km directly above me and changing my heading every so often to cover different areas. My scanners were fully engineered for long range, and I'm sure this was helpful, because several of my finds appeared near their range limit.

If you intend to collect more than one, be sure to outfit a corrosion-resistant cargo rack. I believe you can safely store extra components by transferring them to a fleet carrier.

My setup only has G3 long range scanner but the Titan Drive component always shows up near it's maximum range. I suspect that the spawn is timed and will always appear near the limits of your scanner range - whatever the range is.

Not sure that's the case. I use an A rated long range scanner, 12km+ range and TDC appear anywhere from 4km to 10km from my ships position.
They do always spawn 10km or further from the centre of the dead titan.

I find this assertion interesting, I’ve been hunting ‘goids, for their mats, at one of the other titans just flying back and forth collecting mats while waiting for the next frameshift anomaly.

I’ve found mats from around 5km out from the marker all the way to over 20km. I’ve not tested it, but it seems to me that the mats are spawning 5-7km from my ship not a specific distance from the Titan marker.

I suppose that's possible, although I don't think I've ever found a titan drive component closer than 10km from the nav point even when I was flying from one side straight through to the opposite side.

Regardless, I would still recommend staying about 12km away from that point, because I have encountered other materials spawning inside the dead titan parts when I was flying that close. Those were inaccessible.

If that was the case then people would be finding them more commonly nearer the centre of the Titan, and we wouldn't have such wild discrepancies in the rate of finding them.

I started collecting all materials and ramming cargo items that weren't TDCs to destroy them...what's interesting is they get destroyed instantly without and damage to my ship but 1 in every 20 (roughly) causes 5% damage to my cobra mk5 hull...thankfully a kind ax npc repairs me.
I've not noticed any increase in TDC spawns by doing this. Sometime i get loads in an hr, sometime nowt. Seems like the instance has a spawn rate associated or the soawn is relative to all cmdrs instances.

Why? When all the advice has been to circle around 10-12km.

As I said I’ve not tested it. Just noticed when milling around, flying through the centre or circling, that the suddenly appear on the radar, consistently, around 5-7km from me. - not closer, even when sitting still playing on my phone waiting for my quarry to arrive.
 
For what it's worth, I've found TDCs both outside the main wreckage and spawning closer to its center (though the latter more rarely). It could just be coincidental experience of them appearing around the edges because people might fly around there more to pick up various bits and bobs of interest to them, scattered all over.

One of those drive components that spawned closer to the center appeared almost directly in front as I was heading inward (to cross to the opposite side) and about 2-3 kilometers away, while already within the large remains of the Titan. So I'd say it's just random, but most loot does appear scattered further away on a general basis than within the "core" (or where the core section of the Titan used to be).

A couple of weeks ago I nearly posted that my finds had happened quite far from the nav point (10+ km) but on a review of the video I realised that the nav point was moving around much further than I had thought, so one sample spawn was either 4ish or 12ish km from it, measured just seconds apart...

Yes, there is no caustic damage anymore at all. That goes for all the Titan graveyards.

  • Very few pirates. I only noticed being scanned once, and that was before I had any cargo, so they left me alone.
Even if they do send hatch breaker limpets or start firing at you, a point defence turret and flying close to AX pilot NPCs usually helps.

  • No thargoids. Or, if one did show up, it did so without triggering a frame shift anomaly warning, and the AX squad must have kept it busy the whole time I was there.
A Galnet News article a few weeks ago said that Sol (or was it the whole bubble?) is totally void of Thargoids. Seems to be correct.

My scanners were fully engineered for long range, and I'm sure this was helpful, because several of my finds appeared near their range limit.
Yeah, long range sensors are really useful in Titan graveyards.

6 in 2.5 hrs seems really low. I was getting between 2 and 5 every 30 minute trip. Did you have D-grade sensors? I had long-range A-grade.

I’m fully kitted out now so am not really paying attention to how frequently they spawn anymore.

My first took about 3 hours to find and they seemed a really low spawn until after the first or second Thursday (when everyone was complaining about the spawn rate). Now they seem to spawn between 15-30 mins. I’ve not seen any difference between A and D rated LR sensors.

Edit: there does seem to be a delay in the TDC spawn much like there’s always a delay before the first Thargoids come and play in the other debris fields.

The range of sensors must make a big difference. With short range ones, the TDCs could be there, but you can't see them.
 
I don’t know what to tell you, I engineered a class A especially to test it out. I can honestly say it made no noticeable difference to the number of TDCs. 🤷‍♂️
not if you're searching 12km out it won't...but if you're all over the place collecting other stuff then it makes spotting them sooner much faster.

I didn’t see any more TDCs with long range A rated sensors than I did with long range D rated. I was frequently checking the Targets panel, and generally scooting around, not just circling.

It’s completely unscientific, but my feeling is they were spawning 5-7km from my ship.
