To CMDR <Snip>

After much dummy-spitting and general grumbling, I recently resumed larking around in ED after several months pouting that they didn't design the game the way I told them to, the fools. Mostly I have stuck to Solo but the last night or so have braved Open. My little corner of the galaxy (yes, it is mine) has been player-free by and large. I think I saw two other commanders but everyone went about their business and all was well. 'Pfft', I thought, 'this 'open is full of pirates and griefers' nonsense is just rampant scaremongering.

However tonight I met the nefarious CMDR <snip>. I saw him in my system (yes, it is mine) and then I saw him in my instance. He was in an Asp, I was in a Courier. He probably knew how to, you know, do piloting or whatever it's called, whereas I often fly around with my cargo scoop open, making my ship do a fair impression of it's pilot when he wonders why his ship is scraping around the landing dock like a dog with worms (landing gear not down - again). Anyway, utterly unprovoked CMDR <snip> opens fire on me. I bravely run away, at least I did once I raised my cargo scoop (this is true - I don't know why it was open). Close call. And then he interdicts me. I pop off my rail-gun a few times and then notice that he's also obviously hacking by having a better gun than me. And ship. And skills. So... yeah, obvious haxor. And then he shoots me. And then explodes me. And all without so much as a by your leave, the dirty pirating griefer. Also, nefarious. Obviously.

I cough up the insurance (robbing devils eh? Art imitating life eh?) and leave the space station. At this point two things happen. First, I realise that my 'Wanted' status had a $100k+ bounty attached to it and secondly I realise I have no idea how comms work (though 'awkwardly and counter-intuitively' seems to sum it up). I know the former because the thoroughly non-nefarious or piratey or griefery CMD <snip> messages me to say hi and that it was a good fight (which is... generous of him, let's say, and leave it at that) and that I'm 'brave' to be tooling around with a $100k+ bounty on me (Honestly, I'd have hunted me down for that wedge of cash - and probably lost). And I know the latter because I have no idea, at all, of how to reply.

I can't get his name to come up as someone to talk to. 'Asp' comes up but that doesn't seem right. I've just left the station so I spin round and go back. Maybe I need to be inside for it to work, so I fly through the slot and get a warning because I didn't ask permission (this kind of formidable skill goes some way to explaining how I rack up 100k bounties without really knowing it). So I spin round again, bounce off something and stumble back outside, begging for a 'go home Courier, you're drunk' meme.

At this point, CMDR <snip>, probably assuming I'm pouting/rude/'challenged' somehow (not unreasonable, fair to say) leaves the station and flies onwards with a 'so long!'. I send a couple of messages to 'Asp' just in case but get nothing back, so I came here to post this.

If you're reading this, Commander, thanks for the bit of pew-pew and for trying to engage me in conversation. Sadly Frontier have yet to offer some kind of L-plate sticker so you had no way of knowing the quality of opponent you faced. But one day, when I'm a lot better and you've lost all your limbs in some kind of hideous combine harvester accident and have to play by headbutting the keys, then there will be a reckoning!

ElGuappo out.

Nice thread OP - made me smile :)

Fenris - The numerals also scream at me "wrong" but could it be Ldw 64 ? Could also be a palindrome (VIIV) .. could also be a blinking man with a tiny .. nose ? :D

I've got a brand new combine harvester and I'll give you the keys.

Come on lets get together in perfect harmony!

Emphasis mine.

Guappo dad gummit. You're factually making Elite: Dangerous harder to play than it actually is...

Put in some hours fact finding different aspects of the game, like comms, on forums and the tube.

Fly safe Commander :)

In and around Pai Huldr (pie holder?), near CF 464, Asphodel and the like. Close to Achenar but pretty much every station is close to the arrival point or to each other which pleases me immensely.

I suspect we will be reading Parts 2, 3, 4 and 5 pretty soon....

Also, very good post, laughed a lot :)

Sadly when I see the few other commanders they jump away quickly or attack without warning or demands.

Had an interesting talk with my foe when he hunting traders near "SUPPLYING THE MATERIALS OF CREATION" community Goal.
First induction he was not prepared for me to fight to stop it and dock to drop off cargo.
Second attack he did pull me out of supercruise and I when head to head with Imperial Courier in my Python.
Dropped me a note while sneaking into station in that system (With 9% hull) saying "Thanks for the PVP", and asked why he attacked without looking at setup for Python. Replied he wanted to see if he could manage taking out a Python with Imperial Courier.

I am not a good combat pilot but I know enough about the way things work to give another commander no time to react. So think about your response before it happens is all I can suggest.

Hahaha, you have a way with words. I've said this before, I'll say it again.. I enjoy reading the more literary stories of cmdrs' exploits, and your honest descriptions of stumbling around and forgetting certain "must do's" is very easy to relate to. Have some rep for putting a smile on my face :) :)
