To: Devs - Consider naming one of the starports after this man

Hello to devs and Elite commanders!

I've not been a member of Elite community for log - picked it up in summer of last year, explored the Milky Way for a few months, then due to RL commitments, Elite was (sadly) placed on the sidelines. Well, the spark ignited again a few weeks ago and I'm back in the vastness of our home galaxy.

Since the first days in Elite I appreciated how a lot of starports/outposts/surface ports are named after known persons from various fields of human activity who earned their place in history.

A few days back a name of one of my more known countrymen popped into my thoughts - Herman Potočnik (Wikipedia article on him). He's recognized in the field of astronautics as one of the first to write about long-term human habitation beyond the boundaries of our planet and proposing solutions on this subject. You would really honor his contribution to human exploration of space if you named one of the existing starports after him. Or one of the new ones to be added. Preferably the Orbis type, you can see in the Wikipedia article why I'm suggesting that starport design. The affixation of port/hub/vision/orbital/city is optional, but it's imperative that his full name is used. And yes, after searching, I did find quite a few outposts with Potočnik in their name, but it's not immediately apparent they were named after him, and no starports on that list is also what prompted me to start his thread.

I hope someone from the dev team will read this thread and at least give it consideration. Meanwhile, I'm continuing on my first trip to visit one of the nebulas, the California.

Yes there are, as I noted in my OP, I also mentioned two facts that support my proposal to name a Starport after him.

But they ARE named after him ?!
Or do you think they are named after an obscure european commissioner for environment of the late 21st century?

We'll know if they all get renamed after Brexit.

Did you know that Hawking's Gap is actually named after Justin Hawkings of the rock band "The Darkness"?
The apostrophe is just a typical FDev typo.

Even Einstein only got one L starport named after him, and he invented gravity and space and time. OPs being a bit sizeist in disregarding Herman's many bases.

;)

That is what I stated in OP, given that only the family name is mentioned, you can't say with certainty it's related to him.
I have a feeling there might be a letter number limit that would be exceeded with the full name. Perhaps H. Potočnik

Bit unfair labeling me seizist. Like you said Albert has a starport named in his honour, so should Herman. If you take the time and find a certain illustration in the Wikipedia article on Potočnik, you'll see why I'm lobbying to name a starport, namely an Orbis type after him. 👋
