To Elite pilot of Imperial Clipper, in Maia

Spent months trying to legit pirate. Had EVERY single one log, ruining the game for me. So explain to me why I shouldn’t kill everyone before they can log?

I'm curious, did you ever try using hatch-breaker limpets? I ask because if a player were to use those on me and also send a message "I'm just after your cargo", I would expect to walk away with my ship still intact, minus cargo and broken hatch. Griefers don't go to this much trouble.

So many ways around this. Popular systems will typically have players who try to kill every ship that arrives. That is their fun. Fly in a Private/Non-Combat Group mode. Flying in Open dock at a system near Maia so if you get killed you don't have to fly the entire route again. With one jump to go switch from Open to Solo then complete the journey. Leave Maia in Solo, Group or Open as desired. One can usually jump out before being interdicted. Use the available game resources to spoil their fun. Then they will post on the Forum that there are not enough players in Open mode. Open mode full time and there will be a lot of Type-9 rebuys.

Can't rep you right now. :D

Fair enough, but how useful is that? Will FDev get back to the reporter regarding their investigation? I don't think they do that for anything, right? In that case, the reporter is left to their own devices. In my view, too many reports will be folks not understanding the game mechanics making a stink and then never knowing any better.

Tell them to report it is all well and good, but us old timers should challenge them on it as well. "Certainly feel free to report it, but there's plenty to suggest it wasn't cheating, such as..."

That is true, and an oversight on my part. The problem is where do you draw the line for a "novice" to differentiate between the time to just move on, and the time to report.

It's a difficult question. Especially as not all novices will have direct access to long-time players.

@Old Duck

Yes sir, I did. I played my part to how I should have.
Sent a message prior to interdiction, rip them out of sc. launch a hatch breaker at them. Only for them to log once they realise what I’m doing. Then I get a direct message over Xbox, wishing that I would “die of cancer”. FYI that is a direct quote.
It’s just as well, I’m not a child. seeing some of the messages being sent, that are deliberately aggressive and wishing for such appalling things, really has no place in any game.

I fully understand the frustration with appalling behaviour. YMMV, but it was the other way around with players on PC. I was the piracy/gank victim.

That in itself is acceptable. That is the risk of Open. What is not a risk of Open was the racist/homophobic/sexist/just about every type of abuse. Fortunately I don't see that on Xbox. Most gankers are silent. I have to respect that restraint on Xbox after what I had on PC.

To any PC players reading, I can't stress enough. YMMV. :)

I don't doubt it, as I have an alt CMDR who sometimes engages in totally legitimate (and encouraged by Sandro) PowerPlay combat, and the messages I was getting from other power-pledged CMDRs made me turn off direct comms and PSN messages on that account. It was ridiculous.

In my opinion, and it’s purely just an opinion, what Megatronsfinger (MTF) did to the OP is not griefing and neither is it bullying. Now if MTF waited outside the OP’s station and constantly killed him as he re-emerged, then yes that would be bullying and/or griefing. ED can be played any way a person wants. I play in Open and I always keep my eye out for other players who appear to be lining up for interdicting me. Then I run >.< In PS4 version I’d have a go at fighting as I have a Corvette, but I have only been playing the XB version for about a week >.<

We all choose to play the game in our own preferred way. I chose to be a Fuel Rat. This means I sometimes have to forgoe completing a mission on time if I want to respond to a client’s call for help. Sometimes I spend hours doing nothing but jumping to get to a client only to have them destroyed before we can help them. Then it’s the long drudge home again.

As for logging, yes it can be annoying. I know of one griefer who preys on weaker people and reports them if they log, yet in a YT video the same griefer was shown to log himself when he bites off more than he can chew. FD appear to do nothing, at the moment, about loggers as I guess they need to prove that the player actually logged, and didn’t lose power to his console, or lost internet connection. These things happen. I must admit that I logged once in the early days of my playing ED as I panicked, and I actually felt bad about doing it >.<

I’m just jealous that I don’t have the same ship build as MTF >.<

As someone thats traded to a billion+ credits in open in a T9 and been killed many many times by people like this, my question is why dont murder hobos actually go and fight each other?

They are always griping about 'being bored' and telling traders to 'git gud', but what actual challenge does shooting at unarmed trade ships actually present to you? The answer is pretty much none which means you do it to grief. And the definition of griefing is subjective to say the least. In a game where killing someone causing a penalty for them and none for you, destroying someone unwarranted can definitely be griefing. It actually is the only reason people do it since you get no in-game benefit from killing someone without a bounty. Even if its within the boundaries of what the game allows. Its just the way you justify it in your own mind.

I see tons of vids of great combat pilots on Xbox. Watched one the other days of a guy in a FAS without shields fighting two griefers in Anacondas and win, was a thing of beauty. The point is, with so many actual good pvpers out there, why not go test your mettle against someone that might actually present a challenge? As far as the comment 'I've had months of combat logs'...with as many skilled people itching for pvp in this game I have to quote Will Ferrell on that and say, 'I dont believe you.'

Maybe you should try interdicting traders less and combat ships more? They definitely arent all combat loggers.

We get it you like to blow up 'pve carebear nubs' and make them nerd rage. But wouldnt doing that to someone else that actually can fight back feel even better? Not to mention the more you do this the less new people will actually play in open. Then you'll be here whining about no one plays the game. Thanks Donald.

I've learnt that trade ships are exactly what they say they are. You trade hull reinforcements and decent shields for Cargo space and jump range. It's a risk reward system. You may get away with it when attacked by NPCs but stand a higher chance of being destroyed by a player. Trust me, I think my first ever post in this forum was because I got blown away by a guy in an engineered clipper.. I know it stings.

Please DON'T feel you need to avoid open and play in Solo or PG, DO think more about your ships defences and escape strategies. Decent engineered shields, SCBs, Chaff, heatsinks, point defence, submit boost and high wake are your friends. If you choose not to in favour of more profitable runs with less jumps and more cargo that's the choice you make.

Safe journeys Cmdr! o7

Nobody is 'hiding' from anything in PG or solo, it's merely a menu choice. You open mode only folks seriously need to get over yourselves [rolleyes]

VVVV

I would like to add that I also was ganked by this same pilot, in my dolphin, for no apparent reason, so i came back in my class 5 gunboat with engineered class 3c bursts, engineered seeker missles, and augmented multicannons, all 3 types synthed to premium, and was interdicted by this same fellow, - turned and faced him point blank, unloaded all weapons until empty into that guy with no effect, then he laughed in chat and killed me with one shot,
what kind of fun is this, no combat, just boom and dead, what kind of armour, and weapons can have that effect ?

I.P. Freely

The next time, record the battle, could be interesting to take a look, maybe is worthly to report it to FD with the video on hand

So you're not hiding from PVP'rs in a game mode where they can't affect you... Hmmmm... Ok.

PvP is simply a menu choice, like it is in most games I play. I'm a social player, fairly non competitive since I've nothing to prove one way or another on a PC, plus I like coop play...hence why I fly Elite in PG.

I do the 'Lets shoot each other in the face' thing in Battlefield one, ARMA 3, The Division, Destiny, Ghost recon, Rainbow 6 Siege, Red Orchestra 2, IL2 Battle of Stalingrad...many others...

You get your rocks off playing E-D however you like, I'll do the same. There's no right or wrong answer here...simply menu choices. If that irritates your macho chest hair stroking frenzy, there's not a lot I can do about it... nor do I particularly care that much [squeeeee]

I've been reading and taking part in this Hotel California discussion for the better part of 3 years already...whilst it's a gripping subject an' all, it's not about being brave or any sort of boys own adventure flying in open no matter how much you think it is...like I've said several times already, it's simply one clickable menu choice out of 3 possible game modes.

I'll help you out. Yes, it's absolutely certain the victim was hit by weapons capable of a one hit kill (or at least would appear so to the person getting killed). I'm also absolutely certain they could've attacked the other player with a 'full barrage' and seemingly done no damage.

It's also entirely possible the victim is using hyperbole.

There, is that better?

Perhaps, but I made my comments based on the information available, not on supposition.

Which is why FD would be the appropriate fact finder.

Actually all I'm trying to say is don't feel you need to make that menu choice based just on one experience. I joined möbius after my first negative PVP experience but never got round to playing on the server. I'm now glad I didn't but that's just me. Some one has called me out saying I have a poor attitude but I'm not the person saying to others to "get over themselves" or making derogatory comments about my macho chest hair! Lol! Maybe I should have used the word avoid rather than hide. Enjoy playing the way you want to play Mole! [noob]

I do play in open...depends on my mood or which account I'm playing on, I have a PvP focussed one as well as my main one. I also came from Xbox E-D before we had a PG option, apart from training other pilots in the Lidpar Pilot training Academy where we used PG to rescue newbie pilots from the starter system, I exclusively flew in open.

I just don't get the general attitude surrounding flying in PG or solo from some players, usually protagonists of Powerplay... aside from PvP pilots watching their flying space become a desert outside of CG's. But that's got nowt to do with anyone hiding, it's simply due to poor design choices by FDev... badly implemented Powerplay (which should be open mode only) and engineers which unbalanced the entire ship combat apple cart.

Apologies if I sounded narked
