To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Why should people change their light, harmless explorer build just to avoid being your content?

Beause that's how they can avoid being someone else's content? (At least one of the options)

Ever wondered why you need to throttle up? Because that's how your ship starts to move forward.

Oops, should have used the spoiler tag probably.

Sorry, that's just ridiculous logic.

People should be able to play the game any way they like without non-consensual PvP being forced upon them.

A PvP flag would go some significant way towards making PvP consensual.

That doesn't change the fact that there are many people playing solo to avoid griefers. Making another open mode for them (but with PvE-only as suggested by Robert) would therefore objectively improve the game. Those who want encounters that allow PvP will still have what they want. Simply other people would also get what they'd prefer.
Sure, I get that. I was just answering the OP from my own viewpoint.

I'm fine with the addition of another game mode if it will please a whole bunch of players. It's a game, and specifically a game that pushes the idea of blazing your own trail so players should be able to enjoy it the way they want. There will still be people in solo for those other reasons I mentioned.

Everybody blames the game, but people are the problem, and nobody has managed to fix them through millions of years of evolution, thousands of years of politicking and governance etc.

Give folk a gun in an environment with no consequences, and the outcome is inevitable for at least some percentage of folk. (And there really are no consequences in E : D)

Gank attempts are just an occasional irritation. Its just one of those things that happen where people are involved. Its not worth getting wound up about. If it winds you up, then take your free sidey to deciat or the cg site and get ganked how ever many times it takes to get used to it then just live with it as inevitable. Credits are the only cost, and they aren't in short supply. Complete your trip or do your CG in another mode or just block the gankers one by one until it stops happening.

The worst aspect of all this is the fear in other players - folk are so scared that, on the odd occasion when you meet another player outside the usual places, as soon as you scan them they will drop out of SC, even if you don't have an interdictor, in fear of being ganked, without so much as an o7 being possible. Need to turn down the fear rhetoric and stop caring about it so much.

Thats it. I need a PVP ship. Gonna research it and get to it. If, excuse the expressions please, gankers, griefers, A-wholes, whatever, are such a HUGE problem, which I doubt, then I need to be one. Sounds like a lot of fun as it obviously sets some players off bigtime, which I find amusing.

Oh, I agree with the moral argument.

Fundamental issue with a "PvP flag", though is that it won't just affect you.
At best, it'd mean that other players wouldn't be able to respond in a justifiable manner in, say, CZs or during PP activities.
At worst, it could be abused for more griefing.
Never saw any griefing in SWTOR MMO on PvE server. But a couple spontaneous PvP fights. And didnt ever need anyone to react in justifiable manner but I didn't really go to the PvP zones. They were empty most of the time anyway.

Yes, for at least some of the time. I would go back to solo in haz rez and other things where I want it all to myself, but PvP is the reason I stay solo all the time.

And it's not even player-vs-player. That implies some sort of mutual agreement to the conflict. It's almost always ganking. One person flying around minding his business and some derp roleplaying as a space pirate interdicts, or just a murderhobo getting his kicks.

Except the loss of potentially months worth of exploration data.

And no, you can't fix people. That's self evident, in this thread alone. So, fix the game such that it allows people to avoid people's worst natures.

You built your light harmless explorer ship to accomplish an objective (A-B) same as I built my smugglers and blockade runners. I usually pick up my CG bonus not in the T9 (it flies like it looks) but in a light harmless Viper, at upto a km/s.

There's no reason to expect Open-PvE any time soon, but OTOH things do come out of the blue with FD. Think of the amount of warning we got for carriers and for space legs. If anything can get it for us, it'll be all these megathreads trying to get people into Open which finally come to FD's notice. (Plus mode selection statistics which I expect they keep an eye on).

I wouldn't expect anything from FDev. I meant just what I wrote.

This is silly.

If you want to fight someone go to open or arena (or whatever it is called).

If you have no weapons and want to do something like exploring, without getting shot, then go to solo.

If you would rather do coop without getting shot at then go to Mobius group.

If you want to be a gank and a bully then go to open, pick on the newbies and run away like a coward from everyone else.

If you want just complain about then game then stop playing and go to the forums.

That is everything covered. I think FDev have done a good job here.

You missed players who want to play together without limit their experience because of private group max player restrictions.
Lift those and many will be happy. But the same way FD could just add the PVE mode.

That's a lot of ifs and do thats. A PvE only server would remove most of that red tape.

That response very likely has something to do with those players' previous experiences with other players in Open. Of course those who were the cause of that type of reaction don't seem keen to change the way they play - so why should the players who bug out of any potential encounter change the way they play?
