I often wonder how much of the overall player base takes part in Power Play, and what those numbers actually are.

When I consider that the actions of a comparatively tiny group within Mahon seems to set the plan cycle on cycle, and largely, that plan is stuck to I find myself asking: is that because there are loads of silent Mahon players out there that looks at our posts and spreadsheet and follow that guidance, or that there are in fact no more than 50-100 or so players pledged to Mahon?

This is not going to be all that illuminating, given that A. Not everyone who is pledged may come to these forums. B. Not all that do will read this post. C. Not all that do will care to vote; I never the less want to get a ball park feel for the proportions of players pledged to each power.

This may have been done in the past, but after 20+ cycles I feel it is worth doing again. So a simple question...

Last cycle there were 4700000 merits earned expanding,
2700000 fortifying,
1180000 preparing.

The raw data shows which powers these merits were earned for.

There was also 4800000 merits in undermining,
and 550000 merits in opposition to expansion.
The raw data doesn't show which Powers earned these merits.

Martin Schou already has his player number estimate numbers here using the expansion, preparing and fortifying numbers:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...YUecWxnQqx3i6is6Bua_wQ9cuk/edit#gid=853887095

All merits combined for last cycle was 14million.
If we assume everyone in PP is rating 5 (which they aren't) and they need 6000 per week to maintain rating 5, thats 2300 rating 5 players.

F-DEV really need to employ Vectron (Martin). We might even see some non Empire bias ;)

I'm lvl 5 and need to get about 5000 per week to maintain. Even so, it's still probably a devastating low %'age of the player base actually taking part :(

I'm pledged Hudson, but solely for greedy merit farming and rank 5 salary purposes.

I don't really keep up on the "groups" plans or anything.

This is the sort of thing an analytic package from FD would be good for. A page of charts and graphs showing these kinds of numbers "for real", instead of hearsay, and polls that only forum members vote in.

I am pledged and I have done a few missions but I just don't see the point. Merits degrade so you have to constantly keep up on missions which are not exactly exciting and the rewards are not exactly exciting either. In short it is a really cool concept but the way you go about playing it is boring unless you like to plan out strategies. I really think the people that control the reddits for these powers are the only ones having any real fun with the system.

I am pledged to freedom and my undying will to explore the unknown and the mysterious. I am affiliated with the Federation, flying missions for the Federal Navy from time to time, but i keep my thrusters out of politics, as good as i can...
But Powerplay is adding to the game world in a massive way, even for me as a non-participating player. I read the news, follow GalNet and check the the powers rankings every time i log on...

I'm with ADL purely for the Imperial Hammers

My home system is Exploited by ADL, the station's orbit planets that have asteroid fields orbiting them with HAZ RES sites (x2 of them, and they're large docks), and because it's exploited by ADL you get bonus to bounties, and the station belongs to the Federation so I can farm missions with them to get the Federal Corvette. It's also in a Civil war: Fed's vs Independant.

Literally everything I need

Power play is such a grind with minimal reward or incentive to be invested in it. I dropped my ALD affiliation only a few weeks in. The random interdictions it spawns are just a nuisance.

Another for Zachary Hudson. I'm trying to help where I can and sticking to the plan from the reddit site. I'll spend my hard earned credits to assist as needed, but delivering supplies is incredibly boring to me. Looking for more pew-pew stuff.

I'm one of those who is pledged (to Arissa), but who does not "participate" in PowerPlay territory control/expansion gameplay.

I'm in it purely for the role of being part of a law & order faction, and the bounty bonus that comes with it.
I only maintain rank 2, which is trivial. (bumping up to rank 3 whenever I want the Hammer railgun)

Loyal Empoyee of Li-Yong Rui. Our group feels VERY inactive on the reddit - but we somehow get things done. I suspect it's only a handful of Level 5's keeping us afloat.

I myself am just a Rank 4 who's contribution is a drop in the bucket compared to the dedicated rank 5s and the mindless fortification grinders that overfortify Kalak every week. But I'll keep hitting those M-Pads for now, and perhaps this week I'll try my hand at one of the scrap targets we've been asked to undermine.
