I like how "planetary landings" consist of asteroids and no atmosphere planets. Reason, they dont have the resources to do it any other way. Cant make a new flight system for atmospheric flight. Cant do true procedural generation. And its not due to a lack of skill, but a lack of funding. Well, you fanboys wanted it so bad, here it is. Enjoy a half baked expansion whil bugs a year old still persist and the universe is bland and barren. ED had one chance to weather the two incoming hurricanes of SC and NMS, and that was to fit a niche and not tryin g to compete. I loved ED untill I ran out of things to do. Props to Braben and co for making a fun game. But now i must mourn the dangerous.

Of course, it's also possible that the scope of planetary landings in Horizons is directly lead to from Frontier's repeated statements over the course of well over a year that planetary landings would be chargable additional content, and it would be released in stages with airless moons and rocks being the first stage.

There's no mystery here - Frontier said they would do it this way and lo behold, they're doing it exactly the way they always said they would.

Actually, the publication date of that video was Sep 30th, 2014. 2 months before the game was released. At that time, Planetary landings were known to be coming in additional paid content released starting about a year post release with airless rocks coming first.

Someone posting a video "lets see if we can land on planets" using the game as it existed then would be similar to my posting a video "Lets see if I can land on planets in Star Citizen" now.

Guess what - it's not possible because Star Citizen hasn't developed that module yet. Gee, how surprising that it doesn't work

I haven't been in ED for a while, does anyone know what size Tilian 1 is diameter wise ?

The Galaxy seed has changed many times since Alpha. Tillan 1 is now called KEITA. I doubt it is the same planet as the one in the Vid, it does look slightly the same in the system map. We'll be able to land on Keita in Horizon's, it's radius is 4,757km

Thanks, these are not too dissimilar in scale: http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l538/triopalite/Screenshot 769_zpsi7hd6lnz.jpg (working roughly from the curvature). I think the ship there in the pic, is pretty large, in-fact I'll see if I can find out exactly and edit in in here. Edit Ship Size: length 104m (341' ap) x width 70m (230' ap) x 7.3m (24' ap)
.
It answered my question in part, obviously things will be different now, perhaps. It does point in the direction I was initially thinking, the scale is much less. Also clipping through the image sort of confirms that solid planets were not in-game then, would be interesting to see a later video, I'll have a look around YT. So that was an image placeholder of some type perhaps, although the game is released, so they should actually be in-game now.
.
Just interesting to find out size in-game.

There's no need for module, SC won't have freeform planetary landings. As everything in multicrew demo it's another autopilot on rails.

Anyone remember when we were kids we just used to play games and enjoy them? We'd have our mates over, play games for a couple of hours rather than 8 hour marathon sessions. If we didn't like a game, we'd play something else.

When did people become so militant?

Overabundance breeds self-entitlement. And yes, those were good times. I miss the C64 :)

I hadn't realised that I wasn't enjoying the game nor was I looking forward to the next season of expansions until you told me.

On second thoughts, never mind.

Ever considered using reason and language to argue your opinion rather than sarcasm and assumption?

I miss those time to but to be honest I still went on 8 hour marathon sessions then to.

If some people had there way, this game would still be in beta and wont be released for another year (like a few other space games). Would that make you happy?
As far the landings ago, its amazing how misinformed some people are even after a topic was made to inform them.

We became spoiled.
Before we had to pick between 5-10 games plus what ever your friends had. Now we have 100+ game in our steam account that have never been installed.
Before we could only play games once it was done and released. Now we can buy a game years before its ever released.
Before games required patiences and work. Now....

Society is changing and its affecting the game industry.

I've been playing since January... on and off a few times a month. Still going... still only in a viper... still learning how to play.

I feel bad for those that have burnt the game out too quickly, I hope to be going for a long time :).

When I was a kid my parents told me part of friendship was doing things you didn't like sometimes because your friends enjoyed them. So I would often play games I didn't like, simply to please my friends. I was probably alone on that though.

Opinions are great. No facts just throw it out there and see if it sticks.

When they learned they could post anything that pops into their head without accountability.

its idiotic and totally clueless posts like this that make me miss being able to neg rep someone. Please bring it back mods

The Moderation team can already completely censor threads

The use of dummy and puppet accounts is rife and is used to sidetrack and discredit threads already

Bringing back neg rep will just destroy the reputation of anyone that errs to buck the trend

careful for what you wish for
