Top Tip! - Build a Mining Ship!

Never has there been a better time to build a optimised miner.
Not only do you need the earn credits for purchasing a FC, but you will also need to mine the new FC Fuel (If you are taking it out of either bubble)

So with that said

What would be the ultimate miner? I'm guessing or hoping it won't have to be a deep core build but until we know more, what boat and loadout to use?

A yellow one.

Quick and dirty - Cutter for laser mining.

Summed up: 3 mining lasers, 9 collector limpets, 512 cargo space, 2 prospector limpets, fuel scoop, shields and weapons.

Updated. Now also with refinery. :)

I'm quite sure that the commodity required to refuel the FC will be extracted with the mining laser or with the abrasion blaster, so no deep core mining, because this will exclude a lot of small and some medium ships (Type-7 I'm looking at you!).

I hope we get an upgraded version of the pulswave scanner so that the asteroids with this material can be highlighted with a special color, rather than just randomly shooting at rocks.
It would be great if FDEV added the same materials also on some new special geological spot on planets.

As you will also be able to buy the fuel and knowing FD you will likely be better off mining Vopals and buying the fuel :p

What's the difference between the mining laser and the mining lance?

Mining Lance is a PP item.
It has 2km range rather than 500m.
It also generates 3x the heat of a regular mining laser, which means that using multiple lances will cause overheating.

Best use for 'em (IMO) is in place of a Prospector limpet.
Fit one to a ship, take a quick blast at a 'roid as you're flying toward it, if you see fragments of what you're looking for, launch a Prospector (to increase the yield) then switch to normal mining lasers as you get closer.

Got it!
I will mine Void Opals with my Cutter and my FC at Beagle Point.
Then I will travel back with 500 tonnes of Void Opals on my 20 LY Cutter to Sag A* to Explorer's Anchorage to sell Void Opals and buy the FC fuel and then I will fly back to Beagle Point to refill my FC.
It sounds like a plan! ;)

You will have to get fuel to do about 130 jumps to Beagle Point first :p

Overheating only occurs if you haven't set your ship up properly. I tested, just now, firing the triple Mining Lances on my Cutter for a full minute, from 29% idle heat the temperature went up to 44% and never went above this.
