Toughened spear crown: where to find them?

This is the very last entry I need to complete my Xenological Codex. I have visited several spire sites both active and dormant, I have scanned everything, yet these are not found.

Were this found only at the old Thargoid Barnacle Matrices sites? Canonn says "all the Thargoid Barnacle Matrices grew into Thargoid Spires". Does that mean that that particular Codex entry is no longer obtainable? Is there a non-conventional, non-intuitive way of getting this? The last one at the bottom (Thargoid SpireS, plural) I got from taking exobio samples on foot while on a spire landing pad. Is it the same MO for these crowns?

I’m not sure there is a way to get this one. You used to get an entry about ‘spear roots’ (I think) in this one’s place, and it seems to just have remained unlocked for those who already had it, and updated with the new text/picture.

Yet those center pointy bits remain unscannable, unlike before, and the game makes no distinction between the spire tower and the crown, as far as the composition scanner goes.

Glad it worked for you. For me visiting a Reported Location doesn't work.

I've supercharged at Jackson's Lighthouse numerous times, yet the Codex won't tag it as Confirmed.

Isn’t Jackson’s Lighthouse one of those “pre-discovered” systems where you have all the bodies marked as ‘discovered’ already even when you haven’t been there? Only seems to be the case in the Bubble, though… possibly for very frequented locations. (It may be required for the “confirmed” tag)

And showing a screenshot of the “toughened spear crown” marked as confirmed with a smug picture… doesn’t really tell a lot, because it also clearly shows having been there back in August last year, when the spires were still known as the barnacle matrix, and scanning the ‘bones’ in the center gave that entry. It does not now, which I can confirm by my alt not having it despite being to spires and scanning every scannable (except the exobio one).

I believe you can obtain that one by going out in an Artemis suit and poking an exobiology patch on one of the towers with the bio scanner.

I don't have a video but I can confirm. Get out on foot at a spire site in your Artemis suit and scan three exobio samples from the base of three different spires.

What exobio sample do you mean?

I'm sorry, but I have to ask: have you done exobiology before?

If you're asking how to scan exobio samples, there are lots of guides on YouTube for that.

If you're asking what the specific sample looks like, I cannot describe it in detail, but it's kind of a gooey patch at the base of the spires. Simply use the sample scanner pulse at the base. If it glows green, that's it, that's your sample.

I've always sampled the spires between the petal and the compound receptacle.
Using the pulse function of the sampler should indicate where to sample though with practice you can spot the locations by eye.
As for the codex entry, the composition scanner on your ship or SRV normally does the trick.
If you are hoping about in an Artemis jump assist can save you from a misestimation if distance.

I'm pretty sure this is a bug. I decided to mop up some of my Codex tonight as I realised I hadn't got the Scythe scanned, and went back to a dead Spire site to get this one.

Every spire at the site was scannable by the Composition Scanner, except the smallest central one which matches the Codex image. I'd have to guess it's an error, as it's the only prominent object at the Spire Sites that can't be scanned at all.

I have just scanned the "Thargoid Spires" (Plural).
Land on one of the petals of the Spire (which is a landing pad) and "carefully" walk toward the spire. use your exo scanner to ping the path ahead and you will find them.

Can't help on the "Toughened Spear Crown" though!
