Tourism Spot 0008 (Ringed Binaries) is a sick joke !

I accepted a passenger mission that asked me to go to this location in APAM NAPAT. What a BIG mistake... It must be a sick joke to be able to visit this spot!

Has anyone had the same difficulty as me scanning this spot?
You will know what I mean if you go there...

Judging by the lack of replies, I'm guessing nobody knows what the problem is. Care to elaborate? I know I've been there and I don't recall anything out of the ordinary.

Sure, the beacon cannot be scanned because when you get there it travels at faster than speed of light and disappears before you could scan the spot.

I was there a couple of months ago, it was fine then, it's on the surface of the planet if i recall isn't it? You just need to get into the planets zone of influence.

Ah no forget it, yours is 0008 and the one I remember is 0042, Binary Planet Rings.

It has me interested so I will visit it just to see on my way back to the bubble.

If you get one for "Mitterand Hollow" in the Epsilson Indi system then don't go. That moon orbits around its parent planet in under one and a half minutes. I was chasing that moon for hours on end just to get to scan the Tourist Beacon. Felt like I was doing "For the Mug" all over again.

Well they certainly huttoned you :)
Have the planet come to you.. Dont chase it! If you miss it reposition and try again 1.5 minutes later :)

The view is really nice!

Yeah as others say, just wait for it to go by then sit right in front of it, it will capture you and drag you in to it's sphere of influence. You can do the same with other objects like Lagrange Clouds that appear to zoom away, when the message "safe to disengage" pops up, don't disengage, set throttle to zero and wait until the very last moment and you will often be close enough to be in range and not have it run away.

Ok I am resurrecting this thread in case anyone wants to know how to get to the twin binaries tourist beacon, it is indeed a problem, the issue is that the tourist beacon has been spawned as part of the ring instance and travels as fast as the outer edge of the ring, which is quite a bit faster than it should really for its distance from the planet. if the beacon was in orbit around the planet getting to it would be easy because it would only be traveling slowly at that distance from the planet. But it's not, it's traveling many 100's of kps, so you need to equalise and match speeds by dropping into the ring instance opposite the beacon and then fly in normal space to the beacon.

Unfortunately this will take a few hours, over 3 in my phantom according to the timer, so I am not going to fly all the way there, but as I watch the distance counter at the moment it is still dropping even though I am only going around 400mps, follows a screenshot;
