Horizons Tracking the Tick

How far over has the Tick now drifted, and does it sweep across the galaxy slowly rather than flashing through like an update in a database? ;)

I'm sitting here, flicking in and out of the various sources of Faction information, and I'm seeing no change from yesterday.
At the best of times it takes at least 30 minutes to an hour to complete, so yes, it's the "sweep across" rather than "flashing". Once you see *a* change you really want to wait an hour to be sure nothing else will happen in a given system. If in doubt also completely restart your client to be sure caching effects aren't distorting your view (mostly affects the Galaxay Map, rather than System Map, but best to be safe).

The types of event that can cause multiple changes include:

  1. An Expansion or Invasion - as these change the number of MFs in a system the influence levels will also change, and in the case of an Invasion a War will go pending as well. I'm not sure if a Retreat completing will cause issues as presumably that simply happens as part of the system's tick, rather than being part of another system's tick. There is a caveat on Retreat that if a MF has somehow left its home system in the past, was only present in a single other system, and then completes a Retreat from that other system, then it will re-appear in the original home system, possible after that home system had already ticked.
  2. Non-conflict states can show as new only to then be overridden by a conflict state. That means, for instance, all systems of the MF going from Boom into either None (they're not the system with the conflict) or into War/Civil War/Election (they are the applicable system).

You get the idea.

What is the effect of the tick happening later than it did before exactly? I'm new to BGS mechanics. I read that any influence that would've been gained or lost during the tick isn't actually accounted for?

Our recently added minor faction, for example, hasn't moved from 8% on all online sources over a couple of days. In-game it's showing 6.4%. Is the disparity normal, or are out-of-game sources simply not updated yet?

There's no linked automatic update between the game and any third party sites. Someone has to either hand-edit the information in or be running something that sends messages over EDDN when they jump into the system (FSDJump event).

There is no effect other than the tick happens later than it did before. Don't believe all you read, especially from self-proclaimed BGS experts, at the weekend I proved actions taken in the hour before the tick counted.

A PMF colleague said the tick 'already happened' mid-evening yesterday, i.e. after the servers came back up, but well before the recent time of after midnight.

I saw several reports of a tick during (or shortly after) downtime from different sources yesterday, however if there was a tick then several factions in my area did not have a state tick because some states that should have ended did not. e.g. If there was a tick during downtime then I have several Booms that have been in recovery for 4 days.

we have a couple of tiny influence changes - the downtime was through our playing time - but no state changes as yet

scratch that - we've had one in the last 40 mins

Weirdly I've not seen any change in Nu Wanga yet today, and I've been watching it since 2017-09-27T11:52:28Z. The pending server restart/patch is going to get in the way of checking it every few minutes.

last two days there were two. But it looks like it may be settling to one a day mid day ish - we shall see

In my experience, whenever there is an update or patch, there is an update to inf%. But not necessarily an update to state. So, my explaination for the seeming double tick is: we have had patches. Once the update is complete we get updated numbers, however as I see it - the 'true' tick is happening around noonish in game since the proper update.

I watch the stats for several systems - the past few days I have noticed changes mid day (central time U.S.) and then others after mid night (central time U.S.) - Is there two ticks now?

I’ve been getting the tick at 7 am est consistently since shortly after 2.4. I watch about 10-12 systems and they all match. Thank you FDev. I don’t know if you fixed all systems but mine are. I hope others aren’t still having issues.

Close to 11:10 UTC in our little corner.

Yes, I can confirm that around 6:10 a.m. e.s.t.(matches 11:10 a.m. u.t.c.) everyday. It has done wonders for tick officers across the galaxy and we all rejoice. Now to get more people involved with the in depth BGS.
