Trackir 5 oh yes why did i wait so long

You can set it up so that your nose moves 1cm and in the game, your charaters head spins around 13 times ;)

There are adjustable curves for advanced use, which you can use to create "dead zones" to elite panels, so that it will stick to menus a bit. Not to forget precision mode which you can toggle on and off.

If you are this far in to thinking let me tell you I have been there myself. Go ahead and do it. And don't believe the crap you hear from ProClip, if you use it like a normal human it won't break easy.

Oh thank you, that was exactly what I wanted to hear :) However, there is one more major step to take: My wife It took some time for her to adjust to my VoiceAttacking...

It isnt too late to get her involved you know, maybe with some 'personalised' voice clips for VoiceAttack, you know, regarding 'docking' and 'weapon deployment' etc...

Try to get your hands on TrakIr 4 or TrackIr 3 Pro. Much cheaper and good enough. I got mine TrackIr 3 Pro at ebay for around 30 or 40 bucks (€uro). Its another gaming with it. And no expensive new hardware is needed.

Go for it :)

Thanks all. You guys seem to be excited about TrackIR, so I'll give it a try...and a nice present for my wife lol. First the game, then VoiceAttack followed by the X55 Hotas. Now TrackIR and next probably the Ocullus. What a money sink lol :)

Yeah head tracking is really makes combat easier and also it really helps docking when you can actually look where you want to go. I often find rolling my ship so I can actually see the target (enemy, landing port etc).

I remeber it took some 2-3 days until I got used to using trackir also spend some time tweaking sensitivities. For me the default ones where crappy and after tweaking they felt much more natural.

Making your own is very cheap. Webcam, 3 IR LEDs, bits of wire, few resistors, old USB cable, old floppy disk.

Like the X52 pro, demand and supply varies. Keep watching prices and you will be able to get one for about 160 quid.

I got TrackIR first because I have pre-teen kids and will not always be able to shut myself off with an OR. The make-you-jump factor would be too much for them to resist. :)

oh... man I sympathise - cannot wait for the retail version but the fear of being jabbed or tickled by my daughter (and more worryingly, the wife) is something to be seriously considered :D

A probably silly question from me. How sensitiv is it? Would I have to turn my head much or just a bit to either side to pop up the panels?
Edit: It is about the TrackIR

to look at the side panels i am looking at the left and right side of my screen , so you dont have to turn your head much and the sensitivity is adjustable

This was my thinking. It is going to cost me about £200 to get the Track IR why not spend the £400 for the Rift instead when the retail kit it released latter this year?

I plan on getting the occulus rift as soon as they get good resolution on it ( probably when it goes retail) but may wait longer if the resolution still isn't good enough

Got the trackIR 4 (a bit cheaper than the 5) and it's working very well. I can't play elite w/o a trackir anymore, huge + for immersion.

I'd like to get an oculus rift... but i don't want to beta-test it, i'll wait for a finished product with a good resolution.

OK people i just got a trackir 5 this afternoon install was a snap had it up and running in about 10 min.

got in game ( lol tutorial first) it worked perfect so in 2 min i was in game :)

takes about a hour to start to get use to it ( i am still hitting the buttons on my JS to center my view and stuff like that)

but in just an hour or 2 of play it is amazing :) it is like sitting in the cockpit of the ship you simply look at the menus you need make a selection and then look back to whatever you were doing, navigation adn other menu options are now smooth and easy and you can look away if you need to , following a ship in combat is incredibly easy.

i have no idea why i waited so long to get this, should have bought it back in alpha :)

You waited so long because you could have gotten the same experience for a fifth the price ;)

Can order it for next day delivery, have it set up and working in game within 5 minutes in numerous compatible games and never have any problems with it in months of use?

I have to give you some rep :) , i hadn't messed with the sensitivities and really liked it ,,, still don't have them all set but am getting very close

without your comment i would have left them alone, thank you very much

Shhhh ... I did say this but some of us have 'both', I know I know ... it's a bit over the top, a bit extreme but sometimes it's good to play and have a weee bit of social interaction with those in the rest of the house, that being via the TrackIR. The Oculus on the other hand, is for when you want to get 'in' your ship and lose track of reality and have ED as you new reality! Far better! Shhhh... I didn't say that. ;)

Had my Trackir for two days and like the OP, just can't believe the difference, fantastic. Just waiting for my microphone to arrive for VoiceAttack and the family will think I've totally lost the plot!

Got mine from Flightstore too but looks like they had a Christmas rush and OOS now.
