Trade and Exploration Elite. On to Combat Rank. Need Help.

Make it fun...it'll get boring fast. My favourite ship for a RES is an iCourier (my build is something like this). If you're just after rank then it's worth ignoring the most dangerous RES sites and go for the ones with security patrols as they can take some of the hits, do some damage and you can kill steal with minimal effort.

I get it. I seem to have had bad luck. The two I did that were hostile not only had the skimmers, but had federal security flying above them.

That's unusual for outposts for scan missions, you must have indeed been very unlucky. If you do one and there is a ship flying around, it DEFINITELY does not belong to the outpost or building that you have been sent to scan, simply wait for it to scan you and leave. ;) I must have done 2 or 3 hundred of these and that's never happened to me.

edit: The more I think about the way you describe that... is it possible that you went to a large base by accident rather than a 'Search Zone' as seen in my vid? Was it a tiny little thing you had to chase around the map when you were approaching, like in my vid? If not, then you probably went to a major base, which would definitely kill you quickly, let alone whatever escort it has. Cos I'm really, surprised, like I say, this has not happened to me in hundreds of these.

Yes it was a search zone. I will make sure OBS Studio is recording the next few times I try it to try to capture it.

Yay! I thought so... the satellites around certain installations give SLF. Here's a screenie. The beauty of this is that you can log in and out as many times as you want and keep scanning the pair of satellites until you have all the low level data you need. :)

This is the Capital Ship dock found alongside Evans Port in Parutis. There are other installations with satellites, but this one is in the heart of the bubble.

Scan both satellites, log out, log back in again (same mode, no need to switch), scan again, repeat as many times as desired.

Worked like a charm! 15 SLF after a few scans.

Now that I have mats, I need to read back thru the threads to find out the order I should engineer my Vulture.

Again, I have a Power Issue that really NEEDS to be addressed. Should I do that engineer mod first? I can head to Qwent to do the Power Plant

Here is a post you made regarding Mod order. Is this still the mods I need to do in the right order?
Here is another post where you suggested Mod order.

I am hopping around to engineers in my ASPx and paying to transfer my vulture....hard knock life....

Edit2: After a visit to Qwent and to the Dweller...here is my current Vulture. https://eddp.co/u/MgsZoq7f (Power Dist, Power Plant, and Pulse Laser Mods) Still have issues with weapons deployed. Will just have to turn off Cargo Hatch and the Fuel Scoop when deploying weapons...

With my current build am I at the point where i can at least start doing some combat somewhere? If so, what do you suggest? High RES sites?

You want help, mate? I tell ya, pray to beby Jesus that it's even half as easy as those other 2 ranks.
I could not put a number on how many I've killed between the CZ's for BGS, undermining for PP and general RES shenanigans (unless that stat is some where I don't know), but I'm still a way off.

This one is a long one, so pack a lunch for a trip. ;)

Is there a better criteria for finding Systems with Haz Res sites? Or is it random? Obviously systems with asteroid belts or ringed planets....but what about security or system state?

Outfit a Corvette with lasers (their type will depend on how well you engineer your PD): 2 Huge fixed, 1 Large gimball and 4 M/S turrets (all weapons with efficient modifications, no special effects). No Fighter. Fill it with HRPs (heavy duty), add 2 MRPs, 1 AFMU and Reactive armor (thermal). Biweave shields (thermal), 2 7A SCBs, 6 boosters (3 resistance, 3 heavy duty) and 2 heat sinks (ammo capacity). Charge Enhanced PD and Dirty Drive Thrusters would reduce your TTK drastically.

Sit on a Hazardous RES and shoot at every Wanted ship you see, regardless of what it is, or if they are in a wing. There's absolutely nothing the game can throw at you that call kill a Corvette outfitted like that. Your turrets are there to deal with small ships, prevent shield regeneration and keep your DPS up as you learn how to fight. Focus on hitting with your fixed weapons, you'll get better in time. The gimball will give you extra DPS when your capacitor is full and you are facing your target, stop using it when the PD is depleted. Put 4 pips on Systems and 2 on Weapons. As you get more confident, start moving pips to Weapons. Your goal is to end up having 2 pips on Engines and 4 on Weapons. Put pips back on Systems when you are under heavy fire (3+ enemies), or your shields are going down fast (very rare, but some NPC wings may have especially deadly weapon combos). Restore your shields in between fights, but you should never stop engaging targets as soon as they show up. If you are forced to use your SCBs (when your shields are down to one ring), use them in tandem, and fire 1 heat sink at the same time. You have 5 double SCB cells, and 6 heat sinks (with the ammo cap mod).

Once you get the gist of combat, you should be able to sit on a HAZ RES indefinitely without ever having to use your SCBs, which means you won't ever have to go back to base to resupply.

As you rank up, start ignoring lower ranked NPCs (they stop giving XP, check the wikia). Always prioritize Elite, Deadly and Dangerous NPCs (they always provide XP).

Rinse and repeat a few thousand times, and voilá.
