1. You are using an outdated location database file.
2. Please do not install a new TCE version into an old installation folder. Some files won't get overwritten to make sure, your database didn' get lost.
Install it into a seperate folder and transfer your database from there.

You can, but sometimes a user downloading a new version and installing it into the same folder of an outdated installation, which causes trouble.

I got back into things quickly thinking everything was fine. I had things running, updated and transferred.
However the next time I logged into TCE I got these messages:
If I click 'ok' on either of them this shows up:
I may have an idea as to why this is happening but I would not mind your opinion as both my solutions require a fresh new install with out transferring anything.
My hunch is since the last time I played was way way before Odyssey and the files are no longer compatible for that reason.

Yesterday i had installed your program for the first time.
It worked well and loaded all my journal files without a problem.
When I started playing (in odyssey) it reacted with everything I did in the game.
However, suddenly it disappeared from my game screen and obviously had crashed (couldn't alt-tab to it).
The funny part is that the crash also resulted in removing the TCE icon from the desktop?
How do I get the TCE icon back on the desktop to start the program?
The exe files I see in the TCE maps do not seem to start the program?

My guess is that your AV app had killed and removed/quarantined the executable. Please add an exception for TCE to fix the issue.
The TCE app is great. Where are the personal files kept, like my Notes? I reinstalled the app onto a different drive but my personal notes did not pull over.
You have to transfer your databases from the previous installation folder by using the Launcher > Database > Transfer button.

I've run TCE for some time, and now with a year break, I reinstalled TCE. During initialization, it scanned several hundreds of journal logs, each with many events (between 4-2600 in each log). Progress then got to 60% and after that, it seems to still process stuff for hours. I think I remember I left it overnight last time to process all this. If this is normal, upon initialization, I dread to do this over again. Is this normal?
