Trader's advice and numbers on upgrading from Lakon Type 6 to Lakon ASP on the cheap

Hello n13L5 :D

In your chart i see the Pwr Plnt as a Size 4 but in my T6 the highest class size is a 3 how did u achieve that ?

I understand how you did the Shield Gen into a Class 4 by swapping the internal slots around

Thx ;)

Ignore what this post initially said, I missed the 'trading cash' bit .-.

+Happy New Year!

Uhhh, I can't easily verify at the moment, as my game save on the server appears to be corrupted, preventing me from logging into the game since December 27.

It is most likely that I mistyped the 4 and subsequently filled in the price for the D4 power plant according to the size I had typed in earlier. I certainly did not do anything particular to change the size of the power plant in the T6. Luckily, this likely error should only make a 20,000 credit difference. I will check into it and correct it accordingly.

Thanks for pointing it out!

Yeah, my guide is only suited for traders who want to get it with as few credits as possible, i.e. as early as possible. As for A Class on distributor I completely agree. But A Class (or any upgrading) for the power plant should only be done if you actually get beyond 100%/100% power used. Well, it would be advantageous to skip the B class Power Plant as its needlessly heavy and will degrade jump distance and maneuvering. So if only the class B power plant would offer enough power and you can afford to spend 5 million rather than 1.7 million on it, by all means...................... Traders probably don't want to give up 4 cargo for a small fuel scoop. I know I make more money trading in the time it would take to fill up circling a sun with a smallish fuel scoop that fits into a size 2 compartment.

FYI you do know you don't have to circle the sun to refuel with a scoop. You can simply get to the 98/99 per cent threshold and stop and it will refuel without you overheating/taking damage/getting stuck.....? I chucked a scoop on as the asp has more than enough slots and noticed the small fortune hitherto spent on fuel (hundreds of thousands). Also for the grinders, getting the asp is pointless. It can hold more cargo but costs a bomb. But if like me you, got bored of grinding then its a lot of fun. If you want to turn it into a jack of all platform it will cost as much as a basic type 7... so if your goal is a dropship or python id seriously not bother with it.

No worries sir :D

I'm just about to follow your guide & dump my T6 in favour of the Asp following your guidelines :D

This is a great thread!

Using the info on here I took the plunge and traded my T6 in for an Asp. My T6 was worth about 3.5M when I looked at the Asp but using other advice on this forum I went into outfitting and sold/downgraded all the modules so it was only worth 900k and the rest of the value was liquidated to cash. I believe used modules do not devalue like your hull in trade-in.

Bought the Asp initially for trading, so job no.1 was to swap out the shield for a smaller unit, "D" level modules where possible and fill up with cargo racks. Also bought the best FSD I could afford leaving trading money and insurance spare. I also noticed that with a smaller shield I had LOADS of surplus power, like 54% usage or something so I swapped the generator down to a size 4 which weighs a lot less & you get some money back. I never see the temp go over 93% unless I'm next to a star.

This is my current spec:
no hardpoints or utilitiesD4 power (11.7MW) 81% usage
D5 Thrusters
C5 FSD (will upgrade when I can afford)
E4 Life Support (looking for D)
D4 Power distro
D5 Sensors
C5 fuel (32T)
A3 Shield
64+32+8+8+4+4 cargo (120T)

Jump range: Unladen 22.04, laden 16.65

trade in 7328243, insurance 306667 if you want to work out what it's worth.

Even if I'm not making any more money over my old T6 at least it sounds like a podracer and turns corners like a champ!

TL;DR: Thanks to the OP & this thread I'm loving my Asp!

I have question. According to your list the Type 6 should have the following slots:

2 x Size 5
6 x Size 4
4 x Size 3
2 x Size 2

When I look at my Type 6 it has the following:

2 x Size 5
5 x Size 4
3 x Size 3
4 x Size 2

So something seems to be wrong. Could you check your numbers?

So its ok to take the shields out of the 32 slot and downgrade them to a smaller unit ... And that works?

I'm curious on this as well... is a Rating A Class 3 shield gen still below the mass of an ASP?

ASP has:

1 x Class 6 Slot (1 x 64T Cargo)
1 x Class 5 Slot (Normally hold Shield Gen, can hold 1 x 32T Cargo)
3 x Class 3 Slots (3 x 8T Cargo)
2 x Class 2 Slots (2 x 4T Cargo)
---
96T Cargo Max with Class 5 Shields
128T Cargo Max with no shields

Rating B Class 3 Shields show Optimal Mass of 165 and max. Hull Mass 413T. In fact all Class 3 Shield Gens have these specs, just checked.

My current mass is 420T so it's sketchy that a Class 3 Shield Gen would work at all.

My Rating C Class 5 Shield Gen shows Optimal Mass of 405T and max Hull Mass of 1013T. All Class 5 Shield Gens have these specs.

Trying to find Rating A Class 3 now. My current mass is 420T so it's possible a Rating A Class 3 Shield Gen would work.

That's what I fitted. Try upgrading all modules to class D to reduce overall mass. The only thing I need to pick up now is a class A FSD but don't quite have the 5 million to spare yet.

Awesome 13L5
I have a Type 6 and will be upgrading to a ASP soon. This guide will help me , Thank You

Ah ok, so run D Rating modules as much as possible to keep tonnage below Class 3 shields max. tonnage. Yep interesting. Once the servers are fixed and I'm not afraid to sell anything I'll give it a try lol.

I would just like to weigh in if I may.... I have a lakon type 6 and I have upgraded everything (e.g fsd, thrusters) and I have killed everyone that has indicted me (e.g sidewinders, asps, cobras) and it is set for trading, as far as im concerned the lakon type 6 is just as equal to the asp in many ways....... and cheaper, just my opinion.

sarduca...out

Thanks for this guide, I'm currently alternating between a T6 and a Cobra depending on my mood, I'm really looking forward to upgrading to an ASP but I'm a long way off and I'm in no hurry at all, just enjoying the game day to day and experimenting with the various game mechanics and just generally having fun. I'm not restricting myself to the highest paid activities and I even enjoy a bit of mining sometimes, its actually fun to explore systems away from 'civilization' looking for good mining spots, its just a great change of play style from trading and bounty hunting, just don't bother mining in an Adder, the fuel scoop seems bugged compared to other ships and most of the time you will bounce cargo away from you.

Nice job on the "guide", op.

My ASP is currently outfitted for trading. When trading, I fly without shields to maximize cargo holds. To me, the ASP is a worth upgrade because it can be outfitted for combat, trading, and exploration. When I get a T7, I'll buy a Viper or a Cobra for combat.

6 x Size 4
4 x Size 3

Mine is the same, i can only fit a sixe 3 Power Plant max.

My trading Asp is now setup how I want it.

D4 Power Plant (size 5 slot)
D5 Thrusters
A5 FSD
D4 Life Support
D4 Power Distro
D5 Sensors
C5 Fuel Tank (32T)
A3 Shield Generator
64+32+8+8+4+4 Cargo racks (120T)

Trade-in value is 11.5M, rebuy is 477k

There is a little power to spare, 120T of cargo space, shields for when I collect some hangar-rash, 25LY jump range when fully laden. At this level I really can't think of a more efficient and fun trading vessel!

If you think you'll be stuck in a type 6 on your way to a t7 give the Asp a try :)
