The only trade ship I owned that had shields is my current Type 9.

Combat ships all have max shields!

Edit: The Type 6 with A thrusters can boost away from almost anything. I had done it many times when I had it.

Are there other components I can replace with more cargo stacks? I only get to change the shield generator and discovery scanner into cargo stacks, as mentioned above.

I would highly recommend some form of notes if you're serious about trading, and for taking those, I recommend Cmdr's Log. You can find it here:

As far as the components question, Cargo Racks must fit into an Internal slot. I don't know if you mentioned the ship you're using, but if you've stripped the Shield Gen and Discovery Scanner, it sounds like you may have traded out everything you can in this ship, and will need to upgrade.

As for my Type-6 Outfitting, I've got the following:
D-Rank Everything, FSD is A-Type
Fuel Tank: 8
D3 Shield Generator
Everything else is Cargo. 104 Cargo Space with Shields.
Value of the ship is 2.88m, so you'll need at least 3.2m to buy the ship, outfit it, and then have enough for insurance. With the 700k investment amount, and rounding up, as long as you have about 4m total value for everything, you should be good.
Type-6 gets 31.30LY Jump Range, and 20.04 Jump Range with full cargo.

If your route is less than the 20LY jump range, feel free to upgrade the D components to higher modules. Stay away from B modules, as they are the heaviest and will drastically cut down on your jump range. Power Distributor is a good one to get to A-Rank, then Thrusters.

Think I might get a shield up'n running again. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

I noticed today after upgrading more cargo racks, I get excess mass. Still have something to learn it seems. Assuming I'am too heavy and must upgrade a module that give me further jump distances.
