Newcomer / Intro Trading in my Addr for a Type-6 Transport

This is my ADDER and I'm thinking about trading it for this TYPE 6 TRANSPORT.

If I sell the Adder, 1st selling the modules, I'll have around 1,006,277 credits.
(Yep - I took off the 10% from the Adder base price of 39,993, around 4k.)

I have banked 2,108,331 and added to my 'profit' from the sale, I'm left with 3,114,608.

The Type 6 linked will cost about 2,901,734, leaving me about 212,874.
That's enough for at least one insurance claim of 145,087, plus around 67k for cargo.

Generally speaking, when I haul, I don't concern myself with any offense, but instead rely on speed / wit to get me out of trouble.

Taking into considering I'm currently docked in SOL (safe place?), and the rigging of the Type 6 as I've speced, does it make sense to proceed with the transaction? Is my spec okay starting out in TYPE 6?

Should I build up more credits for insurance claims ? Or perhaps saving more credits for better outfitting?

** EDIT: if it helps, since playing the game I've had a total of 4 insurance claims! :)

Play the Adder for a few more hrs. Need a little for upgrades, the 6 is a great ship. It is a good trader and explorer

+1 for the Type 6.....it's a great little space truck and if you set it up right has spectacular jump range.

To answer your question: As long as you don't fall asleep at the stick you should be OK....I can usually avoid being interdicted and I think the time or two that I was, I just put all pips to the engines and boosted away till the FSD was cool enough to get away. If it were me, I'd just take my Adder into a RES with a couple of cold beers and a grooving playlist and farm up another 500k creds to make insurance/cargo funds a non issue for the T6.:D

EDIT: jsut looked at your Adder.....buy some guns LOL

I would wait a while saving up some more credits for cargo and better/larger cargo spaces you can actually put 32T cargo space in the 2 size 5 internal slots of the T6... and 67K for cargo isn't much considering if you want to trade good earning 1000 cr per Ton you need to buy commodities that cost around 6-7000 cr. per ton... So go earn some fast cash in a RES via BH and save up like 500K-1M cr. and then buy your T6... Btw you also need to find the tradeing route before you exchange your adder with the T6 imo....

haha - thought I'd be getting rep for doing my homework, not for the ship! :)

The ADDER is not spec'd for combat, but instead for Missions / Cargo:
U: 0I Heat Sink Launcher

BH: 1I Lightweight Alloy
RB: 3D Power Plant
TM: 3C Thrusters
FH: 3A Frame Shift Drive
EC: 1B Life Support
PC: 2A Power Distributor
SS: 3A Sensors
FS: 3C Fuel Tank (Capacity: 8)

3: 3E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 8)
3: 3E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 8)
2: 2A Shield Generator
2: 2E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 4)
1: 1E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 2)

I do have a VIPER half way across the void that I guess I could hobble my back to... was just getting burned out on RES farming, and I wanted to build some Fed rep (rank) and I figured that would be easier by farming minor faction missions.

I guess I can go back to grinding RES. Per the T6 I linked, where are the absolute critical upgrades I need to make in order to turn it into a beast? In case yer adverse to clicking, here how I spec'd it:
BH: 1I Lightweight Alloy
RB: 3D Power Plant
TM: 4D Thrusters
FH: 4A Frame Shift Drive
EC: 2D Life Support
PC: 3A Power Distributor
SS: 2D Sensors
FS: 4C Fuel Tank (Capacity: 16)

5: 4E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 16)
5: 4E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 16)
4: 4E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 16)
4: 4E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 16)
3: 3D Shield Generator
2: 1E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 2)

Well...In my experience gaining faction ranks is a losing proposition financially. The missions don't pay much at all. I probably broke even on money ranking up to Baron in the Empire simply because of side-trading and courier missions. I have made 4-5 million in a day's RES farming in my viper so IMO it's the fastest way to get some credits. Also, Universal Evil is right about the 32t gargo racks. You can get 100tons without sacrificing sheilds.

Regarding faction grinding. Here is a post I made in another thread...hope it helps

Here's what I did.

1) if you don't have one...get a type 6 and upgrade it's FSD and whatever else you can afford (PP, PD, Thrusters.. etc)
2) Find a Agriculture planet and buy 10 of each food (Algea, Fruit & veggies, coffee..etc)
3) Visit each of the neighboring systems that are non-agricultural (industrial, refinery, extraction, high tech). Also, buy some agri-medicines and food cartridges when you see them. There are a few missions for these as well.
4) Look for "Need food" missions from minor factions that are ONLY aligned with the major faction you want to rank up in. Take the mission, give food, move to the next star.
5) Pick up courier missions as well. They are quick one way trips and no cargo space needed. Again, never take a mission from a minor faction that doesn't have the symbol of the major faction (Empire, Federation, Alliance) by their name.
6) Forget any combat missions. They are a huge time sink. Stay with food and couriers.

Do this until you get a Naval Progression Opportunity mission. Do that mission and move about 30-50 LY's away, find another agriculture planet and start over. The reason for this move is because to keep your Major faction rep steadily rising you will "cap out" on rep with local minor factions and you must find new minor factions to raise your rep with. I got to Baron in probably 5 days of playing. I would likely have cut this down a lot if I knew this system going in rather than figuring it out myself.

Happy faction grinding:D

I actually read that thread and was going to try that strat !

I ended up buying some consumables but mid way, was at a FED station with 3 missions for various eatables, so I worked them rather quickly, upped my FED rack to Warrant Officer, then headed to SOL to see'z what I could see. I suppose for now my rank in FED is well enough to leave it alone for now so I'm once again grinding for credits.

Updated: banked 3,477,763 credits and that would leave me, rather than 67k, instead with a surplus of 1,437,219 for cargo and further upgrades, etc ... More RES grinding still? ;)

Looking at your proposed T6 spec you're doing yourself out of 40 Tonnes of cargo space there. T6 can have 106 Tonnes.

May have just been an oversight on your part to not change the tabs on EDShipyard. :)

this is the build u want for transporting http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=60W,,2-3I6u6Q3m4s3m6k,08c08c0720727Q403w4xo

without an A class poweer u will find things... umm very warm to say the least. I ran that doing Rares for a long time, handles well..Note its only using a @a not a # class any more, doesnt need a 3 class , all thats doing is costing u excess weight and a large amount of cash for a whole lot of power u cant use.The fuel scoop is a must if u plan on any distance trading, like rares ,otherwise sub it out for an extra couple tons of cargo.

As for interdictions, against npcs, i didnt even bother to try against them, submit, full engines and spam boost and jump.It has good shields

I'd get a Cobra and go rare trading, I've flown a T6 (nice ship) but I'd not want to fly a defenceless trader in the populated systems. Fine out in the sticks where you only get NPC interdictions but not great in PvP interdictions you get in the central systems (unless in solo of course). You experience many more PvP interdictions if they see a soft target like a T6 or Hauler than you get with an Adder or Cobra.

Rare trading can net you a nice profit and will get you travelling as well so the first few times you get a bonus from exporlation.

thx - wasn't an oversight but instead working within a budget, where i'd eventually buy those components when credits permitted. I'm actually in a better position now to build it out further as I was able to generate credits from RES farming last night.

An interesting thread opened up initially comparing the Viper to the Cobra: The Cobra is the Ultimate ship in this game
(Well interesting to me anyway as a relatively new player!)

And the outcome for me is yes, thinking seriously about trading in both my Adder and my Viper for a Cobra, as it appears to me, the Cobra opens up a few more degrees of flexibility. I figure I can raise about 9 mil by trading in my ships and with banked credits. I need to explore the build more to better understand if 9 mil will buy me a decent build, or if instead I should bank more credits, or if I should really just stuck with my original plan of trading in the Adder for a T6... decisions... sjhfssdhkj!!!!!
