Trading in rares

Also a good rule of thumb (since this tool only tells you the max distance to unload and you might have cargo issues) is to sell the rares around twice of the Galactic Average. That's pretty much the cap for profit.

Ah, a good indicator yes. It beats having to check back for distances traveled.. thank you.

Is there any good routes for big cargo ships? I am thinking of Type 7.

It's good for any large ship. Best thing about rares is the high profit with low cargo space. I do normal runs in my clipper, 240T+ no shields with a low jump range due to weight... back and forth back and forth.........

Rare trading, I can convert my Clipper for Bounty hunting, and still have 140T of cargo space for rares. I make millions doing rare good runs, not as much as the back and forth normal trading, but it's so much more fun exploring the galaxy and visiting multiple systems.

NOPE! if you look at the drop down box that says furthest station, you can select next station, and a little box appears next to it to set the distance you want to take the comodity to. I set mine to max ( 140LY). This helps break up your major sell stations so you can minimize how long your cargo sits in your hold taking up space.

excellent tool, i trade in rares a lot, and trying to fill a type 6 is a long haul.
combine it with this and even better. (use the rares list)
have some rep.

I use the trading tool to give me a commodity that makes a profit from the system I am in to the sytem I am headed to. Always nice to pad the pocketbook. I usuallt at least cover my fuel and wear and tear that way, sometimes hitting a sweet trade and making some good money. I just use what cargo space is available after I buy my rares.

If you have a bigger ship (type 6 or bigger), its not worth it to rare trade anymore, better finding routes that give around 300k per round trip.

Sorry, noob question here.

I'm trying to get my head around trading rare commodities. The rare trade route planner in this just seems to tell you where you can buy the rares but not where you can sell them.

From other treads I've gathered that you need to go approx 180ly from where you bought the rares in order to maximise profit.

I have to say none of this makes much sense to me....can someone please explain why you have to travel so far to sell them and on the trade calculator why doesn't it tell you where you can sell them......probably being dumb.

Thanks

Rare goods are very cheap where you buy them but the sell price slowly goes up the further away you go from where you bought them and peaks after 160Ly's.
They are in demand everywhere.
You can sell them anywhere, but the further away you go the more profit you make. If you find two sources of rares about 160Ly apart you can go back and forth between.
An exception is some of them are considered illegal in some stations (found this out the hard way), so best to avoid anything that comes under Weapons or Narcotics
