Transverse

From the Dev's behind Mechwarrior Online:

http://transversegame.com/

The trailer looks like a cross between Freelancer and Tachyon: The Fringe. I will keep an eye on it. If the game play looks solid I might throw in $30.

Competition is a good thing after all.

Kinda looks too derivative for my liking. The website & pledge system looks like a star citizen ripoff, even down to pledge levels and pricing. Ship design.. hmm. Well - if you too SC ships, and remade them in freelancer, they'd look like that, I think. Very disappointed with how the trailer looked, in fact - just made me think of a fancy Freelanceer mod.
As for the lore/game info they have on the site - well, hard to tell, not that much info there; the post-human angle *could* be a good story avenue to explore, but I don't know if they have hired any decent writers to handle that theme.

Still. I wanted to see something original, something that would set it apart from elite and from SC. I didn't see any originality there so far. Sooooo yeah, not pledging my money just yet.

I've given PGI a lot of money, Founders/Phoenix/Reinforcements/Clan. What worries me with this game is the first stretch goal:
  • $1,000,000 / SPACESHIP - FLIGHT

In addition to that there is nothing on the site that tells me how many players are on each server, or is it one server.

Is the game PvP, PvE or a mixture.

Too many questions at this time to pledge.

I'm concerned about the amount of feature creep in this game. I mean, space flight AND space combat? Those are two pretty ambitious stretch goals for a space sim. :)

Edit: Also, I notice there is no minimum funding goal like kickstarter projects have... so it looks like early backers could get fleeced if enough money isn't raised to develop the basic game.

The concept of using different aspects of transhumanism as a lore and feature set injector is very, very intriguing, and also this seems to hit a niche where the other Space Games in development have steered right away from. And that is...EvE with cockpits (I'd really grab that instantly if it materializes)!.

Lack of information (and bad blood coming from the MWO development state) are things that will stop a lot of players from pledging imo at this point. Lets see how this unfolds. In any case though, I wish PGI good luck on this endeavor.

After all, there is not such a thing as too many space sims..C:

There does seem to be the lack of any real info. I mean, is the game 1st person, or 3rd? There doesn't seem to be any ingame screenshots, and I'd be interested to know what their server make-up is going to be.

From what it "appears" to be, it does look like a cross between Freelancer and Eve Online. That might be good....if we had more info on it.

Transverse started with a simple idea – What if an MMO had no NPCs? Crazy, right? If there were no NPCs to interact with, what would a player do?

I can see the thoughts and ideas racing around your head right now! The players! The players would have to be the shopkeepers, the quest givers, the trainers. The players would build the cities, the ships, and the stations. And boom – the whole notion of what is an MMO, has a new vision.

The game

At its core, Transverse is a sci-fi MMO where players use a variety of spaceships to explore, expand, colonize, and conquer the universe. You will build and customize your ships to the needs of your role, whether it’s harvesting resources or fighting your enemies.

We want to empower you with tools and systems that allow you to create and manage planetary colonies, build space stations, be the merchants and traders, and maybe even build your own seedy bar on some dusty backwater planet.

We want you to form your own empires, define your own laws, and fight for control of the Fringe. Most important of all, we want you to forge your own stories, define your own roles, and create your own destinies.

Sounds . . . ambitious.

I agree on the RSI website ripoff, and according to the Star Citizen forums, they have "stolen" some of CIGs ship concept art and modified them a little to suit their world.

Probably a joke though lol, since Ben posted on the CIG forums that they did not license them any artwork xD

In my opinion, I think it's MWO's developers way of cashing in on Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous' success in crowdfunding.

Have they made a kickstarter yet?

Do not even think about giving this shovelware company money.

I mean space combat is a $2 million dollar stretch goal? Really?

Combat?

A STRETCH GOAL!?!??!?!

Braben's and Roberts' campaigns were successful due to having a proven track record in the industry.

Before they rebranded themselves under the name PGI they were called Jarhead games. Who have a reputation like this.....................

And an ongoing law suit with nintendo (under a different company name) for failing to develop a number of games up to the required standard, one of which was a fishing game....

A FISHING GAME.

Oh and of course their latest success.........

Note that unlike kickstarter.... this crowdfunding model does not allow you to get your money back if the project fails to get enough backers to get off the ground.

Steer well clear.

Dont Pledge this game. Please dont do it!

I spend money for Mechwarrior since early 2013. I bought the Phoenix packege because i thought this will be great. At this time founders criticized the slow development of Mechwarrior. On 2012November Bryan promised CommunityWarfare and UI2.0 in the next 90day... we got UI2.0 last year october and badly done in the game. And now Bryan say again that we get community warfare in the next 90day... These are not the only promised that were broken. The only content we got are 3 silly gameplay modes with no goals, NEW mechs and maps. This game is unbalanced and buggy. Half of the content they promised us for early 2013 is not here. Just go through the Reddit Mechwarrior Online forums and you see unbelievable stuff they done like this:

and this

Yes some of them had time to open a restaurant. Some of the Founders money for MWO was used for another game "MechWarrior Tactics" which was shut down some time ago.
On the octover2013 we got mechs for 120dollars and promised that ui2.0 and community warfare will be released in 90days, after 90day they said next year on march. In March2014 they anounced clanmech packege from 50 to 240dollars with goldmechs for 500dollars. July we got the mechs and still no Community warfare. Now they announced the new game and for mechwarrior online we get singleplayer and a mech package for 120dollars... still no community warfare. Players get banned on their forums for criticize their old and new game and the development of PGI itself. Mechwarrior Online is still not done, they have a little development team an now they start a new one?!

And look at the pledgegoals for Transverse!! Combat for 2,000,000 dollars!!

Their forums are filled with raging and disappointed MWO customers.
They're interesting to observe (the forums), especially to someone who hasn't been burnt, like me.
In other words, I thought of pledging but then decided not to.
I haven't read one good comment about this company. Not ONE.
Enough for me.

That really does look very influenced by the Cutlass design in particular..

Will wait until it's on offer on Steam (in say 2017 :D)

One question: proper Joystick/HOTAS support, or another mouse-based control scheme?

looks like they have no game no idea and are fishing for cash. there is nothing else on the site that says we have a plan other than to take your money.

It almost seems as if CR and DB got together and created a "bigger evil" to give militant fanboys of ED and SC a common cause to unite under :D

Yeah, I'm not touching that bandwagon with a ten foot pole. Why on Earth did they think they could just copy the star citizen model and roll in the dough?
