Travel to Colonia

Hi Folks,

Today I'm gonna start my travel to Colonia in my Krait Phantom. My jumprange is 62 lightyears. I start out from Cremona Prospect in the Kuhn system. I will fly a bit to the left of the centerline to colonia to find new systems. My plans in Colonia are to unlock Petra Olmonova, Rosa Dayette and maybe some other engineers.

I had my first accident today. I flew too close to the star and got damaged. I found out that there are certain things I cannot repair;

-The hull is now 97%
-The auto field-maintainence unit is now 97%
-The Cockpit Canopy is now 98 %
-Power Plant 97%
-Detailed surface scanner 99%

Ok now 20,481 lightyear to go. Lets hope there aren't too much accidents.

If you drop 2-300 LY below the Galactic Plane, you are more likely to run into 1st discovered systems.
Your AFMU can repair your canopy & DSS.

As @Robert Maynard pointed out, the Colonia Bridge Megaships can fix you up nicely (and you can sell your Carto data in them, but not Bio scans)

If you join the Fleet Carrier's owners club discord (even if you don't own a fleet carrier), you can see when someone is taking a fleet carrier to Colonia. There's one going from the bubble on the 19th (Nov 2024)

Making your own way there is of course, absolutely okay as well.

Repair limpets can fix the hull and the second AFMU can fix the first.

Flying at full throttle but far enough from the star that scooping is annoyingly slow might reduce accidents, at least until you nod off.

Wait! Do not go if you plan to unlock on-foot engineers, and you don't have the materials needed for the unlocks. They are not currently available in Colonia because the update borked settlement spawns outside of powerplay.

Today I had no accidents. 18,499 lightyear to go to Colonia.

I scanned a couple of planets. There was this gas giant with rings that I scanned but I saw it was allready disovered. Later I scanned another gas giant, this time without rings and I didn't see if it was allready discovered or not. For me this whole journey is a learning experience.

How do I see who first scanned a system or body?

Go to the system map and click on the star / body of interest.
It will tell you discovered, and, where relevant, mapped. I don't think it shows first footfall.

You can tell if a system has been visited if the star is immediately visible in the radar, if it isn't you have a very good chance of having a 1st discovered system under your belt. Early players may not have scanned the star, only the valuable bodies, so not 100% accurate.

On my way back from SagA* I hit one system with 4 different discoverers, I sort of wish the discovery date were shown as who discovered what didn’t look like it was just down to scanner range.

@Rat Catcher answered already, but also, for lesser bodies, when you use the full spectrum scanner (definitely take time to learn how to use this if you haven't yet), zooming in on a body shows who was first to discover and first to map. If no one is listed, you are generally the first (I say generally because it's a little buggy/sometimes slow to load). ETA if you are the first to discover the planets/bodies, there's a solid chance you were first to discover the system. The only way I know to check for sure is to look in the system map, as was said, which takes time.

I set a minimum number--usually 25 or 30 bodies--when I travel. Any system that has more than that number, I stop and fully scan. Even the low-money discoveries, like icy bodies that have already been discovered, add up over time, and with a little practice you can fully scan a system pretty quickly.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of systems that people simply jump through, so any close planets may get picked up by a passive scan, but planets further out will be missed. There is also likely to be a disparity between discovered and mapped - as the latter was a late addition after a lot of systems along common routes were discovered.

I recently headed out to colonia, along the Highway - an very worn route - and still discovered several systems and discovered/mapped some missed planets in already discovered systems.

One addition I would like to see to theFSS summary on mapping is the terraforming info, as you have to go check the system map for this, but all other info is a copy of what is in the FSS summary.

Good point! This is super easy to overlook. I personally don't take the time to check if I'm travelling to get somewhere, but I always check the system map after an FSS if I'm exploring.

If a landable body is unmapped doesn’t mean you can get first footfall on it or even undiscovered exobiology, it is possible but time consuming to find bios by eye from your ship if you have an idea of the preferred terrain.

Thank you all for the reactions. I found out how to acces the system map in left panel. I think I did a surface scan of four high metal content worlds that are not surface scanned yet.

I found that there are four ways to disengage supercruise to repair the frameshift drive;
  • Press J two times and abort supercruise. This results in damage.
  • Land on a small planet or moon.
  • Lock onto an astroid belt and fly there and you can disengage supercruise.
  • Log out of the game and in again.

17,648 lightyears to go to Colonia

Just a quick question. Is there any significance regarding terraformable or not state? Or is it just lore?
