Newcomer / Intro trespass zone at a crash site?

i've just flown a bit randomly on a planet until i found a random signal. landed and it appeared to be a crash site of some sort. some skimmers appeared which i shot down. there's a red square around that site. the site itself seemed to consist of some debris. there was actually nothing there but those skimmers. so, there's a trespassing zone with security skimmers that literally secured nothing.

two questions:

1) was this a bug?
2) do random crash sites need to have trespassing zones? what's the explanation for that?

One thing that comes to mind is that if the site was on an incline, whatever there was in terms of cargo simply rolled down the hill. I've seen it happen quite a few times.
And I wouldn't call it a bug. I think majority of POI like this have trespass zones or at least skimmers around. As for the reason why, well, I don't know. Something something engaging gameplay.

I've seen these pretty commonly as well. And stuff rolling down the inclined terrain too. Kinda interesting to see those robots loyally guarding... nothing, or stealing all the canisters from under their noses so that they're left guarding... nothing.
If the skimmers are wanted, you'll even earn a few cr for taking them out...

Have fun!

Was it definitely empty? No cannisters further in? Or was there a data point to scan?

Perhaps the skimmers were guarding the buried stargate to Raxxla.

there was absolutely nothing except some debris (and the skimmers). no slope either where stuff could've rolled down on. you can see it on the screenshot. the rest of the area looked similar to that. it's flat.

Happened to me not to long ago. Killed the skimmers (wanted) trespassed anyway. Got some data, no booty laying around. Ended up paying a 500 credit fine for the offence. Got 10,000 for the skimmers and walked away with the data. It wasn't a loser situation. However some of the poi sites actually have defensive capability. I've only bumped into 1 in the last 1.5 years though.

1) NO
2) protecting the stuff (including escape pods) from scavengers until the rescue / recovery team arrive (they don't actually exist).

BTW - Sometimes there isn't a crash or wreckage, it is just a cache of booty left by some ne'er-do-wells and the drones are there to protect it.

Empty trespass zones: Happens a lot - you might not think there is much of a slope but it you follow the wavescanner signals for the cannisters you will find the Platinum, Palladium and Jadeite waiting for you. ;)

Actually your screenshot clearly shows a slope.

It’s annoying that the trespass zone persists even when there’s nothing left to witness you trespassing in the trespass zone...

What I find more annoying is the persistent man-made signal on the wavescanner that is still there because of one little bit of tin stuck in the ground. :sneaky:

Yes! This goes for the data beacons as well, after scanning it would be nice if they removed themselves from the wave scanner please FDevs...

Save us going around in circles...
