Trigger an assassination attempt when becoming hostile

It takes quite an effort to become hostile with a minor faction. You need to kill rather a lot of ships, or fail or abandon a lot of missions to get your reputation low enough. So becoming hostile should be an event worth noting.

When you become hostile with a faction, they should send an assassin out to hunt you down. This assassin should be of equal or better combat level to the CMDR and should have a well equipped, even well engineered ship. The assassin should be fairly persistent as well, so if you escape a few times, they should find you later. You should have the motivation to get into your best combat ship to go and meet this assassin.

This shouldn't be about punishing players, but more about creating a challenge.

Absolutely! Awesome suggestion!!!

It may have been coincidence but I have had this happen, I thought it was already a thing.

I had spent a week or so with a newbie friend, softening up the baddies in a local High RES & letting my friend finish them off, then moving on to taking out wingmates of the NPCs my friend attacked.

On my way back after one session (during which I received the polite reputation update that I was now hostile with the local pirate faction) I was jumped by a wing of three AspSs. I was in an AspX.

If not already in, yes it seems reasonable to assume they will not like you & will want payback.

Coincidentally, I've been running around as hostile to PowerPlay, and minor factions. And nothing ever happens.

So yes, I'd love this!

But do make them challenging. There's nothing more annoying than being pulled over by a Harmless Eagle when you're in an Elite Anaconda. Lol

On a related note, this is why I want real Factional rivalries. Gaining rep with one Faction should have an equal & opposite impact on your rep with their in-system rivals. Such rivalries could be "ideological" (Anarchy vs Dictatorship for example), Power-based (so a Faction affiliated to Hudson might be a rival to a Winters affiliated faction) or Super-power based (especially Imperial vs Fed affiliated factions). Coupled with your idea, I think this could make for some very interesting situations.
