I was jumping back to my home system today when I came across a wanted dolphin. I was in my pirating ship so I decided to interdict him and collect the materials. As I was about to kill him he started dumping cargo. The very first one I clicked on was this container of Trinkets of Hidden Fortune. I finished up collecting everything and continued on my way. I haven't sold it yet, I'd like to know if there's some hidden purpose with it. I saw a few posts that said these containers are for Dark Wheel missions, but I also saw one that said these missions aren't given out anymore. Should I be hanging on to it for now or what?

Trinkets of Hidden Fortune are a Rare Good. They are like toxic waste, only without the corrosiveness: illegal everywhere and sold nowhere; the only way to obtain them is from NPCs. If there were missions involving them, they have not been in-game since 1.3 when I started playing.

There used to be smuggling missions from 'The Dark Wheel', but they have long since disappeared

Hidden purpose, now that would be a great game.

I've always thought Trinkets might influence some hidden bgs variable that might change a spawn rate, make a certain missions appear or some such thing. This is based on the ' hidden fortune' being twisted to mean the rng part of the bgs, and the reference in the item text to pilots carrying them to gain favor with lady fortuna (fate, or in the game effectively the bgs).

If you want to sell it suri park in Anlave typically offers ~2400 for a trinket if memory serves.

Camping anarchy stations seems to be the most reliable way to find them, but it can be hit and miss.
