Trip to Orion

Commander's Log April 26th 3303

Today I made a decent amount of jumps but didn't explore anything worth noting. Most systems had only one or two stars to visit and no planetary bodies. Ones that did have planetary bodies were either class I gas giants with rocky or icy moons and a single gas giant with water based life. I am very pleased with the progress made towards my next destination and I may be able to hit two of my target stars in one day of exploring.

Hopefully tomorrow will have more to discover.

5 jumps to Mintaka.

Ice planets... All I see are ice planets, why do some systems have over forty objects with most of them being ice planets?! I made very little progress towards Mintaka because of all the ice. I decided to take a break and go warm up in the back of my ship while resting next to a star,

Hopefully tomorrow will have more to discover.

Commadner's Log April 28th 3303

I finally made it to Mintaka and wow is this system amazing! The star is an amazing blue and cause the rings to practically glow. Mintaka was also the first system I visited to have a black hole.

I found my first tourist POI on one of the planets with the name of Blue Rings. I was interested in what it was so I flew down to the surface to check it out. I was so focused on what the POI was I didn't realize how fast I was flying towards the surface until it was almost too late. I turned my ship back to the sky and tried to thrust out of there but my speed combined with the higher gravity of the planet meant that my sudden change wasn't enough. I slammed into the planet and lost 50% of my hull strength. With some other mistakes I have made on the journey I only have 42% left.

I was very wary when I went to visit the black hole to make sure I didn't lose any more hull strength. This caused me to be unable to get a good picture for my records.

I looked on my galaxy map and saw that Alnitak was very close. I was going to be able to check off two stars in the same day. I plotted my route to Alnitak and was very surprised to see it taking twenty jumps to get there. When I checked the route I saw that there were barely any stars directly between Mintaka and Alnitak so the economical route had to go a long ways out of the way to get there. I didn't want to take a route that would lead me farther from my goal so I changed my plotting to fastest route and Alnitak was only two jumps away and I was off.

When I got to Alnitak the star was nearly the same as Mintaka, it bathed the entire system in a cool blue light.

When I was exploring all the planets and stars in the system I saw the main star shining through the rings of another star and was just amazed by the sight.

I continued to explore and found massive rings around a red star. There was a break in the rings where some planets circled in orbit. I went down to these planets and found another POI in the rings. The color difference between the red of the star and the blue rings was really a sight to behold.

These two systems are by far my favorite on my journey to see Orion. I am excited to find other systems that are this entrancing out in the rest of the galaxy. I have plotted my route to Rigel and afterwards I will hit a station in the Witch Head Nebula that I heard about to repair my hull and get some more provisions before beginning the two final legs of my trip to Lambda Orionis and Epsilon Orionis.

It was a good day for exploring. Looking forward to tomorrow

27 jumps to Rigel.

Commander's Log April 29th 3303

I didn't explore very much today. After I woke up I heard reports that fights were going to break out near the Col 70 sector nearby. I decided to land on a planet nearby and wait it out.

26 jumps to Rigel.

Commander's Log May 6th 3303

It has been almost a week since my last log, I took some personal time to mourn the loss of Salome. After reflecting I have reinvigorated my desire to visit all the stars of Orion rather than spend time trying to bring retribution for Salome's killers. We make our own actions in space, carve our own path and live with our decisions. I know turning back now would only lead to regret until I am able to complete my goal tainting all actions I would take in the meantime. After I return from my journey I will learn more of the state of the galaxy and make a decision for my next plan of action. Until then, I choose to explore.

Hopefully tomorrow will have more to discover.

8 jumps to Rigel.

Commander's Log May 7th 3303

I made lots of progress towards my goal today. I encountered a system where 3 stars lined up with the Milky Way.

I was able to make it to Rigel but jumped into the system at the secondary star. I mistook Rigel B for Rigel until I went to explore the other star and saw the immense difference between the brightness and the size of the star.

Rigel

After reaching Rigel I plotted a route for the asteroid station in the Witch Head nebula and saw my first nebula close up. It was a strange feeling only seeing color in the distance when I have grown accustomed to seeing only a black canvas with stars sprinkled against it. It was my first asteroid base visit as well, I was surprised how easy it was to find the entrance without any identifiers on the outside of the asteroid of which way I needed to go.

I repaired my ship and sold some of my exploration to the station. I was ready to start the next leg of my journey to 39 Lambda Orionis. I had come in range of plotting during my journey but when I tried to plot my route I found that the star system was locked behind an unknown permit. The system was surrounded by Col-70 systems so it is possible that it is locked behind the same permit. I am still too far out to plot to Eplsilon Orionis but I started to plot a route to a system in the Orion nebula that I believe has another asteroid station for me to make a pit stop at. My ship is great but nothing beats sleeping in a bed with a stronger sense of gravity.

It was a good day for exploring. Looking forward to tomorrow.

44 Jumps to PMD2009 48

Commander's Log May 8th 3303

I wasn't able to make much progress today, the two systems I jumped to had more than twenty objects each for me to explore. I am looking forward to getting to the Orion Nebula and exploring the dense cluster of stars there.

Hopefully tomorrow will have more to discover.

Commander's Log May 9th 3303

I made a decent amount of progress today towards the Orion nebula. One system took most of my exploring time because it had over sixty objects. While flying between moons surrounding a gas giant I did look out my canopy and see a nice calming sight of the star's light against the gas giant and rings.

When visiting these systems that have many objects to explore in them part of me wants to scan the items that are worth some credits and move on but the other part of me doesn't want to leave any part of the system undiscovered. For now the completionist in me wins out when scanning systems but that may change when I reach the density of the stars in the Orion nebula.

It was a good day for exploring. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Today when I sat down in my cockpit and re-plotted my route to PMD2009 48 my computer found a much quicker economical route cutting the number of jumps down to 23. The decrease made me feel like I had been jumping while I slept. I continued jumping today, getting closer and closer to the giant red section in the night sky known as Barnard's Loop. I didn't find anything worth documenting today, only stars and planets of ice. Jumping to A class stars still is momentarily blinding every time, I may never get used to the brightness of the systems with these stars. I mad a large amount of progress today since none of the systems I visited contained sixty objects to discover like previous systems.

Hopefully tomorrow will have more to discover.

10 jumps to PMD2009 48

Commander's Log May 23rd 3303

Space madness overcame me, I was unable to think clearly about anything besides my goal. I tried creating logs but whenever I played them back they just came back as gibberish. I am very proud to report that I have completed my mission and returned home safely. it was an arduous journey but it was worth it. I have now visited the main stars in Orion except for 39 Lambda Orionis because it is permit locked.

I haven't recorded a good log since I landed in PMD2009 48 but here is all that has happened since.

After leaving PMD2009 48 I continued to take economical jumps all the way though Barnard's Loop without encountering anything of note besides seeing the view of the loop as I passed by it.

Space madness really kicked in when my computer showed a star as undiscovered 300,000ls away in a system I jumped into. I was beyond excited, I would discover a star in a system right under Barnard's Loop. Hover, when I got there and scanned the star my computer then told me the star had been discovered previously.

I continued on past the loop until I hit the Col 70 sector wall. For those of you who have not ventured out towards Epsilon Orionis, the Col 70 sector is sector locked with and unknown permit required to access it. This creates a wall between Barnard's Loop and Epsilon Orionis. After hitting the wall I switched my navigation to fastest route to try and find a hole to jump through to get to the other side of the wall. I started at the front of the wall and worked my way to the left trying to find a jump my ship could make. No dice, after exploring the left hand side of the wall I found no passable holes and went towards the ceiling. I jumped along the ceiling unable to find a whole but I did find an unexplored gas giant in one of the systems. I was excited to scan that and hoped that no one else would find it before I made it to Epsilon Orionis and back. I was unable to find a hole in the ceiling so I continued over to the right hand side of the wall. There I found the Col 69 sector, the Col 69 sector was not permit locked so it gave me a ray of hope in the long time I had spent flying in circles searching for a hole. I followed Col 69 stars upwards until I saw the sector name I was looking for Oochorrs. I had found the hole past the wall! I was able to plot my route to the star right before Epsilon Orionis so that I could boost my jump and complete my journey. I had made it!

On my journey back from Epsilon Orionis my space madness was gone, I was flying high and excited about the future. My elation only grew on the way back, I traveled to a system that had never been touched before, no one had seen the stars or the planets. I had finally discovered a star. I gained discovery rights on a molten world along the way and right after a passed back through the hole into the Col 69 sector I discovered a system where only the star had been discovered and in the habitual zone existed an undiscovered water world. This trip had become a dream come true, I had gained first discoveries on almost all of my checklist and seen all of Orion in his glory.

I journeyed back to PMD2009 48 and sold my sweet sweet exploration data claiming my discoveries. I then continued on to Bellatrix as I had missed it on my journey out. I had now reached all the accessible main stars in Orion and went home.
