Newcomer / Intro Triple Monitor advice

Hi Commanders,

I am about to get my 3rd 27" monitor so I can play ED to the max!!!

I wondered if anyone had advice on a stand/clamp that will allow 3 27" screens to be mounted in a horizontal fashion?

I've done my usual Amazon/Ebay check, there are many out there but I am unsure as to a decent one. Anyone else got one they can recommend?

Thanks in advance

Andy

I use the 1440p IPS version of that monitor (single one) and it is superb, the detail from the extra resolution is just brilliant. Unfortunately 3 of them would be a bit pricey and the bezel is too think for multi setups I think! :)

£128 seems pretty reasonable to me... I have 2 at the moment and the bezel doesn't seem to distracting, although I have not "gamed" across them... time will tell

Lets see a pic when you have it set up Andy , it's something I'll be looking at when we move house .

Ps. Tell the missus You could have bought twin saiteks as well...she's done well

Yeah I will... It is something I have wanted to do for ages... and I'm looking forward to it... I also play several driving games (Project Cars, Assetto Corsa, GPL and rFactor2) so it will be interest to see how it works out with those as well!!

I was referring to the 1440p IPS version I have, nearly twice the cost and its bezel looks thicker. (Basically I was saying the BenQ monitors are great. ;) )

Mega, try VR though.

170 quid buys you in to a 2nd hand DK2 right now, glorious experience. Even on a 980m.

Question for you multimonitor folks...

I'm running 4k. And it looks great (27" AG271UG)... But do you think three 1080's would do more justice for the game?

I have to disagree with you there personally. I ran Elite on the Vive for a few months.

After playing on a 4k monitor, I felt the larger display space and resolution (with TrackIR) is a more pleasant experience.

I run 3-24's, 1080P and it's awesome imo. Never tried anything else but never going back to a single screen.

Once I get on that computer setup I will try to post a picture of my driving/Elite setup.

I concur - I got an OSVR HDK2 specifically for Elite, but prefer to play on a large flat panel with headtracking. It's less immersive, but much more flexible. I can drink while I'm playing, and don't have to untangle myself to go for a pee.

I don't have to play "hunt'n'peck" over the bridge of my nose to type either.

That's the main reason I haven't bought one, apart from the cost that is. Being entangled and locked away from my normal environment. Having said that it's the one thing in this game my heart desires.

But even a second hand DK2 is a lot of money to invest just to try it , my other issue is my hardware, currently i7 with a GTX 1050,and only 8gb ram I doubt it would cut it, so it would be another 300 for the 1070 and 250 for a new mobo .

Even then I've read what are to me horror stories on setting them up and optimizing them. Technology might be advancing at a fast rate with VR, sadly my pocket isn't .

An i7 at ~4GHz will run VR just fine - you can save money on the mobo. VR is GPU-heavy.

When my i7 cooked I ran an i5 for a couple of weeks with my 1070 and it ran fine on my Rift, so I second the notion that all you need is to upgrade from the 1050 to a VR ready series 10 gpu (I hear the 1050ti will work, but I only have the 1070)

Your i7 is fine imho, not sure about 8mb as I have 16mb but why not try it? Ram isn't that expensive so you can add it later if you need it?

Thanks Greylock, my mobo is maxed out at 8gb, I'm kicking myself for not spending the little extra for a better board now.

I've started the long drawn out process of convincing the missus just how much I " need this " to be able to play elite properly....I'm going to hell I tell ya :D
