Triple monitor setup(all 3 running different resolutions), possible or not?

As title really.

Just upgraded to an EVGA 2080 XC Ultra and a new 4k monitor, my other 2(older) monitors are running 1920x1080 and 1600x1200 resolutions, does anyone know if its even possible to run such a setup triple screened for Elite?
I suspect the answer is going to be no but thought I would ask just on the off chance some clever has a solution :)

Cheers

Bry.

If you're running an AMD card you have a much better chance of this working on Eyefinity. Nvidia surround is a no go if you are using monitors of different resolutions.

I run a triple screen setup and have been for some time. To get the screens together your basically fooling the computer that the 3 screens are actually 1 big super wide monitor.

I had an issue with one of them once that it only displayed in 800 x 600 and the other 2 were 1900 x 1080. Once i switched to surround they all blended together into one monitor 5700 x 1080. so i dont think what your asking is possible.

Its going to be clunky, but you could set the three monitors to the lowest resolution (1920x1080) and set up nvidia surround vision / amd eyefinity depending on which graphics card you run, both of whcih merge your three screens into one virtual screen at 5760x1080 (plus a bit more width if you set up bezel compensation). But AFIK there isnt any way of making the game go full screen on three different screens at different resolutions each at the same time.

For years I had a 1980x1080 24" centre monitor with a pair of 1280x1024 19" monitors to either side. I played a couple of games across all three, Minecraft & a racing game called Live For Speed. In Minecraft I just played in a boxed window, dragging it out to fill the desktop. In LFS there are a bunch of options in-game to support multi-monitors that ED lacks.

Sadly ED can do neither of these things & only works if all monitors are combined into one virtual monitor outside of the game. Through attrition I eventually ended up with three 24" 1920x1080 monitors and by combining them into one virtual monitor can now play ED across all three but found the stretching at the extremes too distracting when using headlook so I just play one the centre one by choice.

I think the ideal would be one big monitor to get the height too, but I don't have room for that and I would still want the side monitors for other tasks (that don't require being merged into a single virtual monitor).

I think it's a little disappointing that such a visually focused game isn't more flexible for multi-monitors, but I suppose 3D headsets were more in vogue when ED was being developed.

Wouldn't it actually be cheaper to get a Rift?

Not when you already have the hardware, and need multi-monitors for other things.

For long I had 22" 1680 x 1050. Last year I bought for main screen 24" 1920 x 1080 with old one being side screen. I once tried running ED on both screens at the same time. Technically it worked but not great. Resolution difference wasn't a problem, size difference was. New monitor, despite being bit larger, sits lower than old one. In ED you can center your UI pretty good but screen not matching horizontally made playing .. weird. If I had exactly the same monitors it wouldn;t be a problem, since they are different sizes and manufacturers it didn't played well.

As for the resolution, IIRC ED has a multiscreen option and it will try to match game resolution to your monitors combined resolution. I, in the end, switched back to single monitor with side one running 3rd party tools.

When your using the monitors for programming, work, documents, but also playing games, three monitors make most sense.
