Newcomer / Intro Tritium

What is the best and current way to get tritium for a carrier? It should be 4k but I see nothing below 40K. There must be a savvy way of getting enough to travel around?

Someone just suggested mining Painite and selling that for around 900k then buying 22 times as much Tritium as the Painite you just sold.

So to rephrase.....how do I get tritium that doesnt involve mining painite. Can I buy it for 4k somewhere? Or has that ship most definitely sailed?

Apparently it can be done but you have to watch faction / system states to predict where it will be. I don't really understand what those states are / should be but I'm sure there's someone on here that does. If you just rely on 3rd party tools like Inara you could be too late and miss out.

I just buy it at the 40k rate. That really doesn't seem very high to me, especially now that it goes twice as far. I can't be bothered to chase around for a lower price, and I don't need to. Mining other stuff like Painite, LTDs and VOs pays for the Tritium in short order.

So the thing is, Tritium does go as low as 4k/t at stations with the right combo of states. But you're talking about a commodity that players need to burn by the kiloton - carriers are almost literally powered by shoveling money into a fire, after all! Since station commodity supplies are shared among all players, you'll not be surprised to learn that those 4k/t stations are cleaned out very rapidly. Last week I watched 200,000t vanish from a medium-pad outpost within about four hours of someone posting about it on Reddit (and the Reddit post came perhaps a half hour before it appeared on Inara). Starports go even faster. So that's about the window you have, if you want to get the super-discounted stuff.

Umm, Hawknerd, right after you got your carrier, I told you where a lot of cheap tritium was but you were too busy mining lmao
Osissi, remember? There was tens of thousands of tons of it, not on Inara for days. Did you get any of it??????????

Don't the super cheap station s only have a few units anyway? You need huge quantities.

And if you plan on actually flying your carrier out into the black, you'll have to mone at some point - even a full tank will run out eventually.

They have a few units as soon as 100 carriers have stripped it clear and even scratched the paint from old watches. When you use the tools available ingame to find them you can get there before the masses that just follow pointers on inara or some other 3rd party site arrive. 40k units or more is enough to fill your carrier, and the production can even keep up with a few CMDRs loading there. Just not 100s.

EDDB showed a place with decent supply and a 4.5k price. So I filled my depot and then put over 1000t in the carrier hold but then it ran out. But It feels good to have got tritium for the first time.
