Trouble getting non Beta to start with Oculus Rift.

Ok heres the issue:

Having looked at this thread last week:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/259048-Initial-Impressions-Oculus-Rift-vs-HTC-Vive

I decided to take the plunge and order my Rift. I have been enjoying the VIVE for the last few months and steamVR is still installed of course, because I would like to use either headset depending on the game.

Now here's what's happening.

Starting the EDlauncher and choosing the Horizon's Beta 2.3 (without starting The Oculus software) works flawlessly. ED starts up, after a moment the Oculus software starts uip and connects to the Rift to ED. Perfect!

Doing the same on the actual game (2.2), the same windowed screen shows up on the desktop, but I get a blank view in the Rift. It's like a floating white and blue window. ED 2.2 does not appear in the rift.

steamVR is not running (disabled that automatic startup) so cannot see why this is happening.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

The 3D options are set to 'HMD Speakers' in 2.2 and Quality is set to "VR Medium".

The 32 Bit version works flawlessly as well in the Rift. It's just both 64.exes (horizons and vanilla) that refuse to register in the Rift, as well as Arena 64.

All software is current (Oculus firmware, graphic drivers etc...)

Can't seem to find the culprit here.

Some other very strange phenomenon is going on as well. I have a 360 degree background view that I use on the VIVE and that I have set up using steamVR. I have not applied this to the Oculus software, but it shows up in the Oculus set as well.

I know you said you disabled SteamVR but for me this is the prime suspect because 1) there is a bug in 2.2 where the game starts SteamVR even for Oculus uses - I had to uninstall it* - they make have fixed this in 2.3 beta hence the difference and 2) the blue and white screen thing - I seem to remember getting something like this earlier in the year when I was messing around with SteamVR or one of the apps. If it were me I would uninstall it and then see what happens.

*only time I need it is for Project Cars, which I don't play that often because ED.

@Main Seuquence

Thanks for that suggestion...

I uninstalled both steamVR and the vivesoftware completely. However:

When I launch ED 32 I can choose between 5 settings:

OFF
ANAGLYPH
SIDE BY SIDE
VR HEADSET
VR SPEAKER

Those options (after unistalling steamVR) are no longer available in ED64 / Horizons, it just starts up on the screen and does not seem to register the Rift, nor does it give me the option to select VR HEADSET and VR SPEAKER. [sad]

any hints on this ?

OK solved it:

After checking the integrity of the game files via the launcher under 'options' and a 5 minute download of files I tried again. I have not reinstalled the vive software yet.
