PvP Truesilver's Top Tips, No.3 ++ Gimballed Duelling ++

Think I fought you or someone with a similar/identical loadout about at week ago in my Python with Torps & Gimballed Multi's. Though my torps missed, my 3 large multi's managed to get down you/whoever to ~21% but my hull was in an almost identicle (worse) state due to phasing punching through my shields (SCB's kept my shield strength up for the majority of the battle). I conceded cos I ran out of ammo (and synthesis mats) - well not quite but as the fight had lasted in excess of 20 mins and I knew I didn't have enough ammo to finish off my target with 4 chaff!

Was a cracking fight, longest one I've ever had.

Great post, thanks for putting in all the effort. I'll be sure to read your previous posts.

Why thank you, sir, this is actually Fight No.14 in the table! It took 26 mins 30 seconds and ended when your Python was on 28% hull.

I might be thinking of a different fight but I think your canopy had cracked also (?) anyway the canopies usually break to phasing at about 30%, though not always.

My own hull was actually a bit higher than that I think (I'm away from home or I could check the vid) but I noted all my own hull stats down and I know for sure that the very lowest was against a really experienced PvP-er with fixed burst lasers, who got me to 25% before he went splodey...

Our fight sure was a marathon, thanks again, o7

Great .. I appear for 10 seconds on the video and get the in the thumbnail :p hahaha , gotta say that this DBS had an utter bad loadout :p

Ha ha, sorry Greedy Raider, I didn't feature your DBS in the table, like I didn't feature Mystweaver's mine-laying Cobra and other smaller ships, but it did make it into the vid.

What amazed me about that fight was how utterly ineffectual the NPC cops summoned by that interrupting Clipper were. They literally did almost nothing. After our 1v1 was over I then fought them in waves for a little while until I self-destructed because otherwise I would have been there for way too long ...

About the rails etc don't beat yourself up, kind of the point of this experiment as set out in the OP was that I've spent a year learning how to avoid those things ... it's kind of a signature move, I just need to work on some others ...

Hahaha , Cops are jokes , I've been saying that for a LONG time.

I think they finally listened cause they moved the Vulture and the Python to the cop duty, but yet still... they need better loadouts... not those shenanigans beam lasers... they need a propper "PvP" loadout... Also they should finally RETIRE the eagles from dutty... Viper(3 and 4)/Vulture/Python/Anaconda are a good COP selection. I once thought on removing the anaconda, but now i thik that the anaconda could be used in an inteligent matter if the player is at least SMART about it and keep the slow anaconda right next to him.

So everything they need to do NOW is get the proper loadouts... And MAYBE we could take cops seriously...

About the fight itself... that was a test ship for a plasma /rails setup... The battle was very good to show me why having two diferent tipes of fixed weapons (intant and traveltime bases) are always a BAD idea...

A treat as usual, Truesilver. Both informative and entertaining. It's always a pleasure to see a CMDR who is skilled both in practical application as well as theory. Perhaps someday our paths shall cross on the testing fields:)

Interesting. This is how I've been doing PvE for a long time, ever since flying in a Vulture back in the day... But since I'm not an avid PvPer I haven't had but a couple opportunities to try out the technique.

Great read

Yeah I'll take your word for it on the percentages... and yes Canopy had cracked. As mentioned, it was 3 Large Overcharged Multi's w/Autoloader & 2 Medium Torps with Reverb (useless against your no-shield build, but always fun to fire).

I'd never had got you down to even 80% if I was using Plasma!

In addition, my errors against you could have been avoided had you posted this post before the fight :) I realised was wasting ammo firing while your chaff was active and whilst out of optimal range (greater than 1.5k), but I just kept at it... which ultimately caused the shortage of ammo.

Was a goodun. Tks o7

Thanks all for a great response to this thread. It took me ages to edit not one but three vids as well as writing the OP, doing the table etc. I had no idea whether anyone would be interested in reading something about gimbals and I'm delighted by the level of interest.

Now, aiming to conclude the one 'spirited debate' that the thread generated:

Although I don't know anything about your flying or PvP experience, if you'd like to post your usual FdL build here, I'd be happy to state my guess about how the fight would go, with reasons - it would be interesting to see how accurate I am, if the fight happens!

Ah, I'm playing on live only.
Here is the FDL I'm using, for war or res ...
(that's not an optimised fitting to defeat yours)
http://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/outfit...A=.EweloBhAOEoUwIYHMA28QgIwV0A=&bn=Extreme MC

Ah ... understood, we can't meet up anytime soon, then.

I'm afraid though that this is not a PvP build and (no offence to your skills) would disintegrate.

All the FdL's I fought in Beta (including two like yours with 5 x gimballed multis) were min/maxed PvP builds, waiting in supercruise to fight other PvP builds, with either the entire internals of the ship taken up by modded HRP's or HRP's and SCB's.

This is not a comment on your piloting skills of course but amongst the 2 million customers who have bought this game, there is nobody who stands a chance against a serious PvP-er unless they are also in a serious PvP build.

No offence as well, your build doesnt look either like a serious pvp build ;)
Neither the opponent list you provided on the first page
But if you want me to use scb, well, that can be done in any station.

I dont understand why you cannot fly on live server, but I'm still quite interested by a shieldless fdl pretending to kill skilled shielded fdl.
(I'm not saying this is impossible, as I already saw it myself, but it was with several factors in favor of the shieldless ship, on a time engineer didnt exist)

Now, I did offer, as above to give a prediction to Cmdr Peuwi as to how the fight would go down if he posted his build, with reasons, so (adding to the further, more friendly, debate between us that followed) let me do that now.

I predict that if we duelled, myself in the FdL build in the OP, against Cmdr Peuwi's build, Peuwi's FdL would reach 0% hull by around 4 minutes (at most, 5 minutes) with my own shieldless FdL still having over 80% hull (at the lowest, 75% hull).

I won't explain fully now, because I don't know whether @Peuwi is still reading this thread, and it's more interesting to throw it out there and discuss, but I will do if asked.

I will, however, give a hint: I predict that not only would this outcome be repeatable over and over again (in the same builds), but also that it would make no difference to it whether Peuwi's shielded FdL replaced its PvE internals with SCB's, or not. I predict that the outcome would be precisely the same with, or without, the SCB's.

Now, if asked ... I will explain ... or of course anyone else is welcome to venture an opinion...!
