I'm trying to like this game, though it's isn't always easy. The key seems to be to stop grinding. I've accepted the fact that I'll never own a python, let alone an anaconda. I'd even given up on owning an Asp, As it would probably cost about 25,000,000 credits to fully upgrade. I've got my faithful old cobra, and a shiny new viper I'm content with. I've given up on mining, and exploring as they are mind numbingly boring. I stopped trading, since unless you have huge cargo space is not worth the effort. I've even stopped the rare trading, even though the money was good. It was just getting too dull.
And so I bought a Viper, and started bounty hunting. It's been much more enjoyable, I wish the noncombat parts were half as interesting, or fun. But I know that if I keeping hanging out at extraction sites, waiting for pirates this too will become dull. So, I've decided to delve into politics. Since I know that with a game this massive nothing we do will affect the big picture, I've decided to take the 'all politics are local' approach.
As a rare trader I became familiar with the Lave area, and since that's where I've stored my cobra I might as well call it home. There are several Alliance Systems in the area, with some independent systems nearby. So I set myself the task of trying to convince some of those independents states to join the Alliance. But the questions is how?
I thought I would find a minor faction with pro Alliance leanings, and do missions/trade with them in the hopes they would take over the system. But if they did would it become an Alliance system, or would it just be an independent system friendly to the Alliance? The rules governing influence are ambiguous at best, at a worse they are not working.
Has anyone flipped the system away from, or into one of the three major factions? It it a waste of time for one person to try this? Would it take the effort of hundreds of people? If it happened would if happen by itself, or would someone at Frontier have to flip a switch?
