Trying to return after 4 years away :) Launcher won't connect

Hi guys
I enjoyed ED a lot back in 2015/6. Decided I need to return

Updated Launcher as instructed - however it will not connect to launch game , brings up a very old school looking 'Dial Up Connection' box , 'Broadband' is ticked but it won't connect ...I am already connected fine.

It all used to work fine on this , admittedly aging, PC .

Any ideas ? You may have spotted I am pretty clueless about computers so simple words please :)

What version of Windows are you using?

It looks like an issue with your network/internet setup. At what point do you get that box popping up?

Old ...Windows 7

The box pops up immediately after trying to start the launcher. Other online games I have are functioning completely fine. Everything else with my internet is fine.Capture1.JPG
I then sometimes get this but obvs cant go much further as it says not connected.
 
I realise is a couple of days since being posted, but I reckon if this computer can get on the internet using a web browser (which you've confirmed I believe) then click Start > Run and type in ncpa.cpl and press <Enter>, then please post the screenshot of the resultant window that appears, and I should be able to work out what's going on from there.
 
Thanks guys. Some progress - turns out it was a WAN Miniport Error 651 ....anyway, after some googling around I was able to change a couple of connection settings and it will now launch !
Next problem however ...... game is updated, files validated but when I click PLAY .....the menu disappears for 10 seconds , then comes back and nothing happens. Game won't play. This happens selecting Elite Dangerous , and Elite Dangerous Horizons. I can play the Single Player Combat Training.
Ho hum .......I'm hoping I can get there eventually
 
There could be so many reasons for that. Rather than waiting for responses from the forum of players, why not log a ticket with Frontier, they'll know the log files to get off your machine to help them work out what's going on...?

Yes. I now realise this is a common problem with lots of possible reasons. Will do. Cheers

Looks like there are still some problems with your port/UPnP/Firewall/VPN settings. Launcher is "just" a web browser, single player training doesn't need to access the servers/ports the game needs to access. Yes, support is your best option.

I know I'm a bit late, and I have no information or fixes to offer, but I hope you fix your problem so you can get back to playing again :)

Hey thanks. Unfortunately my PC just has issues that are beyond me figuring out. Spent too long chasing my own tail. I'm either getting a new one or will get someone to have a look at this. Shame as I would love to be back out there again .

just seen this... I know you are running an older PC, on Windows 7?
But, just in case it may help - sometimes when there's been an update, if I click LAUNCH on the launcher web browser, the game will not start.
So, I have to restart Windows, and then it usually works.... until the next update or patch.

My apologies if this does not help, I'm not that knowledgeable unfortunately :(
I really empathise with the frustration that PC's can generate - hope you can get it worked out sir (y):)

Well - I never did get the issue resolved ....and then my PC died anyway :D

So - all new shiny system and I'm ready to get back out there. Just logged in for first time in years ..... can barely remember anything :rolleyes: , I wouldn't trust myself to launch successfully right now ! ....and looks like a lot of changes. Back to pilot school for me ...wish me luck !

Definitely try the new tutorials, they have greatly improved since 4 years ago. Don't worry if you do not manage to complete the challenge scenarios, they are exactly that - challenges.

Thanks ! Will def check out all the tutorials and training again.

First thing will be to find where I left my old faithful Explorer :D
