Ts3 & ED

Hello,

I wanted to let you know about just how much TS3 adds to the ED experience.

Being new to ED is a massive learning curve, yesterday I learned so much about the game and how it works, future plans, peoples expectations and so on. It was a genuinely fun experience.
Being used to playing games with TS i was so surprised to see so little TS activity on the forums, but very graciously Han Solo has made his TS public and this is where I spent some time yesterday and will continue to so long as its up and running.

Those who have never been in a TS, its time to get on board, those who deny its values, good luck against the swarms of TS groups that will surely come and collectively kick some SP butt.

But seriously all jokes aside, it has so much to benefit the game and more importantly the ED community.

Hope to see you all in Han Solo's TS soon.

Regards

There are other Teamspeak channels available.

They have different selection criteria than that provided by Han solo and his group.

teamspeak is not for everyone, I understand that it does make it easier hence my servers too, I think when ingame comms become available most people will just use that, and for the people too lazy to type will use teamspeak hehe

how come noodle?
Firstly, it breaks immersion. Secondly, it's cliquey. Thirdly, it hands an element of control and authority to whoever's providing the TS server. Fourthly, if I wanted to chat to people, I'd be down the pub and not playing a computer game. ;)

On the point of immersion, Elite (for me at least) has always been about being alone in the cold depths of space. TS kinda undermines that illusion.

I'm all about making the game very immersive, in the sense that you feel like you are truly piloting a ship in space, doing whatever it is you do.

But I also think the phrase "breaking immersion" can be used a little too much, when in fact it's just "I don't want to use that, it's not right for me". This game is a sandbox, and that means pretty much anything goes, within some basic game rules. Now if someone strays past those rules to exploit a situation for gain or to bother other players, then yes, that's breaking immersion, because they're brought out of the game mode sense. But basic communication? Why does there have to be only one way to communicate with other players? That wouldn't be realistic at all.

There are some examples that would be bad for the game, such as a global chat. A system wide chat would make a bit more sense, but should be through the in game comm system, which would control how you talked. Think of it as the public airwaves. And then you have the many other frequencies, the Teamspeak and alternatives, where you have to know who you're trying to reach. It all works in the game world, and it's fully within the player's ability to control how much they participate.

I don't disagree that voice communication is great in a multiplayer open world game like this.

I would still however much rather use an in game solution rather than external software.

My main reason for this is that it keeps you and those on your team segregated from other players. You can't organically communicate with new potential allies and enemies or just briefly chat with a passer-by.

Good thing it's coming soon then... ;)

This is just my personal opinion but I would not use a team speak server from people who thought it would be fun to blockade the only star port in the game and try to kill them should they dock unless they used their team speak server to say they don't have their fictional plague. The point is they do that once, they could try to 'persuade' those on their team speak to do it again. That type of game play didn't sit well with me, and even though I was not effected by it, a lot of people were and for no good reason at all but to grief others.

So for me no team speak, I will use whatever FD provides so that I only follow the rules of the game and not some arbitrarily made up by whoever runs the team speak server and suggest you use it there way or go away.

In game comms would be my preference

However - that requires playing when the missus isn't around, otherwise it is going to be keyboard only :(

I'd rather chew my own gonads off than roleplay on teamspeak :p

So why bring it up in the first place, you trollin me? :p
