Newcomer / Intro turn-off messages in the local/main chat panel

How do I turn-off (stop receiving) local/main text chat, which I find distracting - to say the least.
Even though in solo I receive both npc babbel ('... this is amongst the top 1% liners etc..') and apparantly chat from other (real) players goading each other etc.
Looking in the 'settings' tab on the comms panel but could not find a 'off' switch.

The top 1% rubbish you can't turn off. It will haunt you throughout your journey. Some of us have been seeing that rubbish for years now. It's FD's way of torturing us on a regular basis, if the grind wasn't bad enough already...

You can kinda turn of the new system wide chat (where you see other players talking) by switching it to tabbed mode, and then never tabbing to it. But there's nothing you can do about the "Top 1%" guys.

The top 1% rubbish, because to me it is, needs to go. For a start you shouldn't even be able to hear internal comms from wedding barges, liners etc as that's what they are, internal comms nothing more. As i've mentioned elsewhere, FD did a great job on station chatter, inside and out, really good atmospheric background chatter which adds loads of atmosphere. Then someone decided on the 1% rubbish, a massive fail that doesn't just annoy me, but probably thousands of players. It adds nothing to the game whatsoever and is just a joke now. Except it's not funny anymore.

at least there isn't Audio of it...I would probably lose my mind if that popped up and some voice came on, all sappy car salesperson like, reading the dialog...same for the wedding party. Who cares if you haven't seen your family all in one place. I'd pipe down or there will be some NPC who doesn't like you or your family either who shows up and wipes out you and your entire family in one place...

I usually watch the comm panel if I am hauling a load and I jump into the target system. That way I can see if the Juicy Load Pirate has decided to try and interdict or not. Most times I will see the text movement in my peripheral vision and glance at it to see if it is friend or foe, otherwise I ignore it.

First of all congrats on an impressive necro. ;)

But... no. This was never addressed. But hey, who wants to mis out on the top 1% messages? :p

Yeah just trying to recycle everything, just doin my bit yano 😝

as for the question - that’s a shame…will just have to cut out some card and stick it to the top left hand corner… aaaaaand Patched!

on a serious note though , I also had to stop playing it for how much repetition there is where those little details are concerned , lack of variation with certain communication elements like when docked at star ports (factions that greet you in writing) and “you’ve scratched my paint” is getting abit old now (even for new players for the simple fact it’s ‘chance appearance’ is quite high with other variation to what’s reacted being limited)

If no option to remove the 1% in settings , I mean I have a bunch of new ones if the devs wish to use ? They should be adding in at least 20 new comments per month 😆 keep things fresh n all…either way all I know is little details like that keeps people playing longer instead of changing their orbits to another game finding themselves returning to it in just under a year

Surprised someone ain’t developed an AI program yet that shifts through a choice of a billion words to create fresh and alternating phrases augmented to compliment any given situation whilst without not bombarding the comms with overdone inconsistencies…

First off, to completely eliminate player chatter, play in solo mode.
for npc chatter, On a long enough timeline it won’t bother you so much, though the urge that you’d like to slap the person who added the tour ship and wedding barge coms Never completely go away.

Some you will find entertaining at first, like The NPC in the lil Eagle you just attacked with your fully engineered Krait 2 says something like “I’m going enjoy watching you die”. Eventually you won’t even be paying attention to the chatter in combat. I just wish I could smack talk back at em.

But during missions that say “hostile ship’s may be sent against you“ , you’ll want to watch the chatter. “I’m surprised you made it this far” , ” target in sight” are all signs you’re about to get interdicted So get ready.

After while you don’t need the comms since you known when n where your gunna get interdicted.
Sure the player comms is needed.. not so sure 95% of the other is, they could implement other ways to warn… I guess all I’m saying is if turning NPC comms off is no option then add a few gigs worth of new comments to go with what’s current.. that’ll do it

You know we did have the facility at one time to hide local messages - now we can't even put local in a tab.

I think it was the squadrons update that messed this up, unless I am mistaken (not be the first time).
