Turn off VR mode

Maybe he said it wrong, but I'm having the same issue as he is/did and this is after I just upgraded all my      to be VR ready, so no VR hate here. It's probably something simple but when I open Elite now I get the Gear VR type view of 2 displays on my new 40inch 4k monitor. I'm running SLI with Gigabyte 980 ti's. Now since I don't hate VR can I get a reasonable suggestion on what to do? I'll reinstall myself and never come back here if it works.

"vr mode" is not a thing for elite. It just tries to set some in-game settings. Go into the options and disable 3d rendering and stop whining.

Load from the Frontier launcher.

Steam automatically goes to the ED launcher; this is not the issue. Rather, something has gone wrong with the patching process, no matter what version you try and launch into, it's starting the VR version of Elite Dangerous Horizons for me too. I've also gone into graphics options and you cannot disable Side By Side, nor can I use my Geforce Experience software to over-ride the graphics settings to try and force it out...

Steam is rubbish.

I'm glad it isn't just me... I literally cannot start ED in anything other than VR mode after installing my Vive yesterday

I went to play Elite for the first time since the Rift and Vine launched, which I don't have nor care to have probably for another decade, and it refuses to launch, nor revert to anything but side-by-side VR mode. Great job you guys, make the game worthless except to less than 1/10 of 1% of your users for a gimmick.

A gimmick? Are you insane? Having played ED with the DK2 I can certainly say that it is quite the opposite. Playing ED in VR makes the game much much better and I can only guess that you have not tried it yet.

The Vive/Oculus CV1 only makes it better (once the current problems are sorted of course).

switching 2d vr

give EDDS a try (Elite Dangerous Display Switcher v0.4)
works fine for me

(in addition you can easily change the GUI color)

greetings
