Newcomer / Intro Turning off modules when deployed

My Cobra has a power problem. The biggest gimballed beams and the small fragment cannons cannot fire together. I have the max power plant and max distributor.
I remember reading somewhere that it is possible to disable, e.g. the FSD, when the hardpoints are deployed. I have set the FSD to lowest priority, but that has not helped yet.
I tried to find such a setting on the right hand side screen, but I seem to only be able to set the priorities. Do I need to disable the module manually each time I deploy hardpoints?

No need to disable modules manually, just set the lowest priority to modules you don't plan using when your hardpoints are out.

Before buying modules and spending money best you try you setup on this page: http://www.edshipyard.com/

It seems with FSD off, you still spend too much power. Try upgrading your power plant or degrading some modules.

Wow. Congratulations to maxing out power on a Cobra! You should be able to lower the priority on the FSD and the Cargo hatch. If you've got shield enhancers, they draw a lot of power too so you may need to rethink those. Also, shield cells can cause power issues. If you have more than one, disable the other(s) and see what happens. You should only use one at a time anyway, so you can just enable the other(s) when the current one is used up. Also, lower the priority on the fuel scoop if you have one.

If you have a high grade Kill Warrant Scanner, they draw ridiculous amounts of power. Downgrade to one with a shorter range and you will free up loads.

the priority system should automaticly turn off low priority modules as soon as you deploy your weapons. you can manually turn modules of by pressing your select button when the module is highlighted.. (helps resting) Also: there is a small bar system at the bottom of the modules screen where you can see your total available power (100%) and segments that show how much of that power is used by which priority group. If group 1 still exceeds the length of the powersupply you need to reprioritize more modules or make some compromises by replacing some modules with ones that take less power.

You can also see how much % each module takes form your power supply. replacing a module with a high percantage of course is more usefull than compromizing on 5 other modules that might be more beneficial but has a lower power intake.

Stick your FSD, cargo hatch, FSD interdictor and fuel scoop all on low priority. If you need more power than that, you might need to plan your loadout a bit better. Use http://edshipyard.com to test out setups quickly and easily.

i don't know the stats of your component from the top of my head but maybe EDshipyard is out of date... anyway if you want to save some power i'd suggest using fixed beam lasers. once you're good enought at aiming, you will do much more damage because you can shoot (and hit!) from further distance.

I am apparently not good at reading EDShipYard yet. In my loadout, it seems I have power to spare?

Maybe I need to work on the priorities again. Maybe I accidentally put FSD on two together with weapons, and therefore it turns off the weapons maybe?
The cargo hatch is yellow when I deploy, so that at least works.

Unfortunately, cannot upgrade the power plant anymore.

If that's your layout, you should have power to spare. Obviously something is not right. Upload your modules, power consumption and priorities setting.

Another trick I'm experimenting with is to assign priority 2 to the shield boosters and priority 1 to the shield cell. The plan is fly with the shield cell disabled and enable it only as needed. The boosters are useless at that point, so in theory no loss when they disable. It adds a bit of extra time of course, but in a Cobra you have a better chance than most of disengaging for long enough to access the module panel.

Well, if that is really your ship, then you shouldn't need to set up priorities at all- even with everything on, you're at 98% with hardpoints deployed. Are you sure that you haven't forgotten to include something hungry like a shield booster/cell battery?

Do you actually have a 3A power plant instead of a 4A plant? It's easy to make the mistake of putting in parts that are too small. Not a lot of places sell the 4As.
