TURRETED Modified Guardian Plasma Chargers

It would be really nice if they added turreted versions of these weapons.

The reasons for this weapon specifically is because Plasma Chargers do not work automatically when under AI control(Because they can't figure out the charge-up mechanic), the turreted version could have identical stats to the non-turreted version. This would make Multicrew much more viable, since you wouldn't need to sacrifice DPS to have a gunner!

I can't see any downside, but if anyone can think of one, please say so. I'm sure an answer could be found.

But frankly, I think you could just add a turreted version with identical stats and have it work fine right out of the box!
 
Every turreted weapon has about half of the damage output compared to the fixed one... this is a feature to bonify skill over head count, giving it some balance. Also, plasma weapons usually do absolute damage ignoring or overcoming resistances which by itself is a big advantage, therefore this equilibrium point was put in place... the bonus given for flying with a friend in your ship is another distro pip to play with.

Nobody uses turrets for multi-crew, so I think it should be self-evident that these measures are not enough.

The whole purpose of the "gunner" sit in your ship is for being occupied by a multi-crew member for using turreted weapons... even the turret movement speed and angle are very much increased to facilitate just that.

Right, it's just not enough. Guardian turreted plasmas already are better than normal turrets to compensate for this. I just think they might as well make them useful for both solo and multicrew so you can swap freely.
